Aftermarket choke tubes for Pheasant

I know a lot of guys have different opinions on using Mod, IC, LMod etc., but are any of you guys using aftermarket choke tubes in your shotguns and if so, what brand of tubes do you like? Is there a brand that is more consistent than others?

With a pointing dog I like IC and Mod made by Briley in my 20 ga Beretta O/U for wild pheasants, chukars, huns, etc. The only negative I could point out is extended tubes tend to collect grass and weeds between the two chokes at times. Sometimes I think the factory IC and Mod would be a better choice for hunting. The Brileys do pattern well with 6s, but that said, I never shot the factory flush chokes hardly at all and never did any patterning.

I have a Briley Modified extended choke tube for my Franchi. Bought it 10 yrs ago. I'm deadly with it.

I've never had an issue getting factory chokes to produce a pattern I found acceptable. I've played with some of the aftermarket options and still have a few Pattern Master and Carlson's chokes. For the cost to performance. I'd probably reach for Carlson's after I had tried factory flush tubes on the patterning board first.

I like the Briley... proof is on the patterning board and I used the extended chokes for ease of changing.

Extended Carlsons here. I’ve always had good luck and never seen the need to look elsewhere. I can not comment if they are more or less consistent than other brands..... they are probably more consistent than me!

Use pattern master mid range in my SBE II for waterfowl and pheasants, works well, patterns well. If the bird keeps flying its my fault not the pattern or shell.

I also use Carlson extended tubes. In the last couple years, I have primarily used the “mid range” cremator choke out of my Ethos. When I miss, I never cuss the choke so I am happy with it.

I use Carlsons for duck hunting which are at longer ranges...

I shoot a lot of sporting clays as well as spending quite a bit of time in the duck/goose blinds.

Most good clays shooters are split on their opinion regarding chokes. Some guys want the latest/greatest. Others say "its a round piece of pipe".

I am actually in the latter. As long as it is well made (concentric), it doesn't matter. None are magical.

I always use a fairly tight choke, particularly hunting. I want as many pellets on target as possible to bring the bird down cleanly. Its my job to put the pellets where they belong.

Spend an hour at the range patterning your choke of choice with the ammo you will use. It can be enlightening!

For pheasants I will shoot a Carlson full choke rated for steel shot. Found I can comfortably swing on any bird out to 35-40 yards and have a higher chance of killing it instead of breaking a wing and having it run.
