I absolutely love my first lite north branch in brown, wear it everywhere. I also wear it with certain combinations of uniforms. I'm not sure how lax your uniform standards are though.

I am actually looking for something to wear while in civilian clothes.

That First Lite jacket is a great everyday jacket. I currently wear the Sitka Traverse Cold weather hoody and it is awesome... extremely warm and not bulky.

A decent softshell would be my recommendation. First Lite makes a great product, but I've had a North Face Apex for 10 years now and while I'm not going to pack it in the back country, it's easily my favorite casual jacket. Plus it blends in nicely with civilian clothes.

For civilian clothes, I’ll vouch for the Patagonia Tres Parka, bar none

I'd definatly look at arcteryx. My jacket is 5 years old and still looks brand new and i wear it everyday in the winter here in alberta.

If you want it to be purely causal and a good value, Costco usually has a hooded soft shell jacket that is a pretty good buy. Not sure it is field ready, but know plenty of folks who rock those for everyday use.

I have been very happy with my sitka Celsius jacket. I bought it in moss color which looks good with most of my clothes. It also had a removable hood which is a nice touch.

I wear the Sitka Jetsream in Lead as it is my favorite hunting jacket. You did say not break the bank, so costco has some good options as well. I have a black Columbia soft shell I found at Ross/Tj Maxx a few years ago. It was like $30. Looks good.

I usually wear a Costco soft shell or Carhartt Sierra Jacket. I've got a Costco puffy I wear around when it's dry and cold too.

My KUIU Kenai in slate color is my casual jacket. I wear it all winter long when I need it, but still haven't used it while hunting.
