I think this is brand new stuff, but just in case I'm late to the party...laugh at me kindly.

ADFG sent me an email today with notification of a comprehensive app available. I loaded it (Apple App Store) and it works exceptionally well. Maps, regs....great stuff. Plus it contains a record of any licenses and permits you have registered.

Sorry no link. Just search ADFG in your app store.

Yeah I got checked in the field once and realized I’d left the paper copy of my fishing license at home. I wasn’t fishing at the time but trooper reminded me not to use my fishing gear during my time at hunt camp. The app should eliminate that kind of situ so I welcome it, downloaded immediately today.

Yeah those old paper licenses are pretty silly. I realize not all people will have access to the app and such, but convenient for those that do.

Will it let you access regs without cell reception? I hate not having the right screenshotted pages when I'm back somewhere remote wondering if an unexpected critter is in season or not. Same question but for the waterfowl regs. Thanks.

That’s irritating. I assume they have internet access back there some how, or Sat phone, or even SSB to radio in your ID to make sure you’re not a felon on the lam.

Kinda a sore subject with me. My father and I were pulled over in an inflatable 300 yards from boat we launched from. Lots of in and out of water so he left his wallet on big boat. I had my stuff. Long story short dad got a ticket for fishing without license. Officer would not follow us to boat to get it. Would not look dad up in system and see a lifetime of license purchases including THAT year, etc. Water under bridge… and only one of about 10 ridiculous run ins I’ve had with fish and game as well as USCG. In could write a book! Have also had some very pleasant ones! Unfortunately the ratio bad to good about 5:1. Most have been just standard stuff… nothing exceptional One way or the other.

I saw that email. Regarding AFG app…. I assume it’s going to need cell reception or can you grab what you need in town and it’s then conveniently all stored and files in one place.

Just save to a pdf on your phone and you can access anytime.

Downloaded yesterday as well. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit old school in that I like having the paper copy with me and don't see myself replacing it with my phone. Just to many variables involved. But, definitely a solid backup plan for those "oops" situations.

The app is not necessarily a substitute for your paper copies, especially if something goes wrong with your phone in the field. You could just as easily photo your license and such but that's not the same as presenting the real thing when asked. Might save your bacon in certain situations depending on the people involved.

If you buy your license online (and print it at home) you can print multiple copies and keep one in your pack, wallet, camp, truck, etc.
