I thought I would share my season. My wife and I are dedicated hunter in Utah so we get to hunt bow, muzzleloader, and general deer. My season started with high hopes. I thought this was my year to hunt hard and spend the time to find a mature buck. Our first year I hosted my dad on a ML hunt and then my wife during general season. Opening day of archery found us at the hospital with my wifes torn retina. This would demand we drive the 3.5 hours to the doctor every Friday with an over night for the next 3 weeks. She would also miss hunting season unable to shoot. I missed archery except for the last weekend. On that weekend I found a buck I decided I would come back for during the ML hunt. I actually had that buck at 30 yds that weekend and almost got him but was busted by his friend, a smaller 3x3. So, with archery over and 2 weeks past it was now my first ML hunt on my tag. Opening morning I found myself again 30 yds from that buck I found bow hunting but could not get a clear shot. I made a promise to my wife that with what we went through and her seaon over before it began that I would make this a hunt to fill the freezer. So that evening when the the buck that foiled my shot at the bigger bick during archey came out I decide to get my revenge. My first ML buck. My first Utah buck since moving here. My first deer processed 100% at home. Buy a meat grinder, you wont regret it.

I would aslo like to add this was my first deer solo in the back country. I was 3.5 miles in and packed out the deer and all my gear I packed for a 5 day hunt in one trip. Now I can say I packed 100+ pounds. I dont think I have ever had to push myself so hard. After loading the pack and finding a rock I could set it on so I could shoulder it I douted my ability. I dont think I have ever felt so good after being in so much pain. I wish I would have moved west 20 years ago. I never though about conditioning for that weight until now. I just thought I could do it. I will be ready to do 6 mi next year.

Congrats man, happy to hear of the success! Had a terrible archery season for my first in the mountains myself, but I guess time to start getting ready for next year =)
