8x42 is an excellent choice for low range glass, you’ll get most bang for your buck in user friendliness, light transmission and field of view.
A couple great options you can occasionally find in that price range are the Kowa BD II and the latest Nikon M7, both have good definition, sharp edge to edge, wide FOV. Ergonomics is a slightly better on Nikon and glass is slightly better on Kowa IMO. Another good option is Zeiss Terra ED, glass is fine, ergos/fov good.
I’ve been also very impressed with a couple of the Celestron ED models, the Trailseeker ED and the Nature ED, build quality on the Trailseeker ED is a little better than the Nature ED, which has had reports of eyecups becoming unglued. I’ve seen the Trailseeker ED go for or under $200 and the Nature ED as low as $120 on the used market. I keep a Nature ED around as my backup truck bino and it’s very good for the money in wide FOV and low chromatic aberration. Just make sure it’s an ED version if you buy one because they also make them with non-ED glass.
I’m sure there’s other good options out there I haven’t tried. I’ve used older Gen vortex viper and diamondback which are fine for the money and come with bulletproof warranty.
