Any reason you can't build a 7 PRC on a Tikka 6.5 PRC? Everything should be the same, except getting new mags, correct? Of course re-barreling it, before I get a smart ass answer ;)

If you are going to stay with factory ammunition then you will be ok with a Tikka mag. But if you are going to handload and try to push the envelope with the heavies the cartridge may be too long for the Tikka mag. Hornady spec’ed out max SAAMI COAL to be 3.34” which is the longest cartridge the Tikka mag will take. Obviously if you are going to seat a heavy VLD you could exceed the COAL of 3.34”. I have not seen any load data to show what that OAL could be with different bullets. Hornady won’t load out further than 3.34”. The hard wall for the T3 action itself is 3.6” I believe. You can get aftermarket mags to get you out to 3.6” but it will cost you $500-700 in parts including two mags to get there. I would rather spend the money on a barreled action myself. Maybe the longest bullet you would ever want to reload is less then 3.34” OAL. Depends on what you want to do with the cartridge.
