Finally getting around to doing a 6mm-284.
Tikka action with a preferred .750 taperless 19" barrel suppressed.

I will be sending in a dummy round for proper length throat. So all you 6um, 6-6.5prc, 6 creed, 6 whatever guys, what's your best performing bullet that you have seen? Primarily 0-700 yard usage.

I realize it's probably splitting hairs between these and in reality won't make a difference, but chime in anyway!

Hornady 109g eld-m .546
Berger 108 elite hunter .559
Berger 115 vld hunter .568
DTAC 115 nose ring .591

Or anything else!

0-700 yards for what?

I seem to recall form suggesting that the DTAC’s are better suited for elk than deer due to deeper penetration before upset.

109 works well from what I’ve been told. I’m waiting on my 6-6.5 PRC barrel from Preferred. 18” stainless, 7.5 twist, diamond fluting, .180” freebore. I went with threaded muzzle and .750” taperless profile

6-284 was the plan originally, but the scarcity of 6.5-284 brass is almost reason enough to go 6.5 prc parent case.
If you don't have 6.5-284 brass yet and don't want to size all the way down from 284win you might want to think about the switch. Lapua has suspended 6.5-284 brass due to the wars and Peterson isn't doing another run for a while (I asked in the brass thread recently and they said tentatively 2025 Q3, subject to change of course).

That said I am absolutely curious what results you get if you go 6-284 cause it has intrigued me. :)

At the moment I have a PVA 6creed barrel on order and plan to run the 109s.

Please keep me updated on this. This is the exact barrel I was going to order but with different fluting.

It seems as though 6.5 prc would be the move from a brass perspective....

What a fun 6mm!

There’s plenty of 284 brass floating around, but the prices keep going up. Accurate shooter classifieds or Gun Broker always have new old stock.

My 6BR form dies step down 4 times, with 7mm being the last step before 6mm, so I can’t imagine there would be an issue with 284 brass going to 6mm in a single step.

Ehhh. I know it’s boring but I have been the most impressed with the hornady 105 bthp out of my 6 creed….. and I’ve killed with 95gr nbt, 95gr tmk, 105 berger hybrid and 108 Eldm…..
All of my shots have been sub 300 yards tho…
Pencil hole going in, carnage begins a few inches deeper, lung soup and then a nice large exit on about 90 percent of the deer I’ve shot.. below are exits on 3 different mature bucks
