Is the 243 a decent host for a suppressor? Just wanting to lower the decibels some for hunting that is closer to town. Also, what has been the finding for minimum barrel length if I wanted to chop a barrel? I know that higher fps is part of what makes this round work. TIA.

I shot a suppressed 243 at coyotes for years. I ran 70 gr noslers at 3500+ with a 20" barrel.

EVERYTHING is a great host for a suppressor and 243 is a sweetheart. There won't be barrel length restrictions that are too bad for most makers with the smaller cartridges but you need to check with the manufacturer of whatever can you have.

My 243 suppressed with an 18” barrel and 75gr Vmax hornady superformance is About 3225fps and an amazing suppressor host.

I hope to be posting some success photos in this thread soon, well 5-6 weeks anyway. Final load testing for the new for this year 243, 5 rounds each at 100 and 200 yds with 105 Bergers and 108 ELD-M and I’ll decide which to go with for the year. Honestly I could just as well flip a coin, both shoot very well and are just at 3200fps.

My wife shot a whitetail doe this morning with her .243. 95 grain Nosler ballistic tip, roughly 2500ish impact velocity. Slight quartering to, hit a little high and back. Exit was right at the diaphragm. She ran about 25 yards. First pic is entrance, second is exit. 20230927_074821.jpg 20230927_074831.jpg 20230927_075847.jpg 20230927_085541.jpg

If I was wanting to shoot 115 DTAC’s from a 6CM, anyone have a recommendation on how short of a barrel I could get away with to achieve a reasonable 2,800 fps muzzle velocity?

Won’t be hand loading myself, atleast at first. I’ll have Unknown Munitions load up ammo, so can’t push loads hotter than what will come from them. I’d like an 18” barrel, but would go 20” if needed for 2,800.

@B_Reynolds_AK I think you will be cutting it close but likely right there with 18" depending on how hot they will load them. I am running a 22" Preferred prefit at just under 3000 and a buddy is running a 20" and 108eldms at right around 2900 if I remember correct. We are both at 40gr of H4350 so not a super hot load.

I am at around 2840 with the factory 108gn with a 20" barrel.

Another data point for you. My 18” runs factory 103 eldx at 2840 fps

Here another one, 2660 fps from my 16” barrel shooting factory 108 eldm.

That is surprisingly slow for a 6CM. I get about the same speed with factory ammo and AR15 level handloads out of 6mm ARC, 108gr ELD-M, with a 18” barrel.

Editing to add, I don’t own a 6mm CM, but that seems slow.

I know. I thought I would at least get 2700. This barrel only has about 40 rounds down it though so maybe it’ll speed up.

Broke in my 6 creed tonight finally. Antelope at 160 yds. Factory 108 Eld-M at 2746 (18” barrel suppressed). Impact should’ve been about 2530. Ran 20 yards and locked up the brakes and started wobbling. Dropped with a second shot. Super happy with the bullet performance. I clipped the edge of both shoulders and there was very little meat loss.
