What are everybody’s thoughts on a muzzle brake for a 6.5 creedmoor? I’ve never used a muzzle brake for a gun, was curious is all!

For a hunting rifle or target rifle?

I have a 5.5# 6.5 Creedmoor that is a joy to shoot without a brake, and I'm super recoil shy.

If you're wanting to call your own shots at the range, sure slap a brake on.

I have a brake on my 6.5 CM because it came with it and I would have already removed it if that didn't require a gun smith. Just way too loud and it's not necessary, at least on my heavy Ruger Precision Rifle.

Forget to stick hearing pro in one time and your ears are damaged.

will a break tighten accuracy up?
Every rifle is different but unless you're really taming the recoil I'd say no.

A good trigger job will do more in a 6.5mm for accuracy.

If it was a .300 RUM...well sure

Brakes make a huge difference in your ability to call shot placement and to mitigate recoil. Depending on your budget, Area 419 makes a great brake as well as APA. You won't regret getting a muzzle brake, that's for sure. A brake may actually help with accuracy, but there is also a chance it could hurt it. Most good quality brakes do not hurt accuracy and generally help. It all has to do with barrel harmonics

I put on a forward compensator from Accuracy Systems ("Quiet Brake") on my Creedmoor. All the sound is forward, so you won't hear an increase in muzzle blast. Well, it is another 1.5 inches further out, so technically it's probably a little quieter than without the brake. It reduces recoil about 25%; it is noticable. Hanging the extra weight off the end of the barrel did change the harmonics, so I am having to work on bullet seating and/or charge weight to bring the groups back in. I do like it. Added note: This rifle is a Bergara HMR (Mesa Altitude stock) in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I put an Area 419 Hellfire on my long range target rifle (Bergars HMR 6.5 Creedmoor). I haven't noticed any change to accuracy but i have noticed a big difference in being able to spot my impacts and misses and see exactly how much (in mils) off i missed the target. I use a Burris scope with a Horus 59 reticle so being able to see how many 0.1 mil clicks i need to correct for almost ensures a second round impact.

I don't have a brake on my hunting rifles.
