If I have an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel, is swapping the barrel the only change necessary to convert it to 22 arc?

Yep. Not sure what you are using in terms of a gas system (block, rifle/carbine, etc) or buffer, so those may need to be tweaked to get optimum performance, but you bolt and mags are the same between the two.

Yes , long as you have a Type II bolt.
But only the early ones used the depth of the 7.62x39 bolt (Type I).
Doing the same thing myself.

The 22 ARC is an improvement. More BC and higher velocities. Like mine.

Update: I swapped the 6.5 Grendel barrel to a 20" Faxon 22 ARC barrel. It shoots great and cycles with no problems using a suppressor and an adjustable gas block.

I'm at 3100 fps with BLC-2 and 62 ELD-VT. Still below book max and also only 100 rounds into the barrel so I'm satisfied. With a 250 yard zero (1.5" high at 100) I can hold dead on to just past 300 with my thermal setup. Big improvement over the .223
