Been a couple years since I’ve owned a 6.5 caliber but I’m back with one this year. We have killed a pile of critters with the 140 grain Berger vld hunting and only a handful with the 156 grain Berger. Everything from coyotes to elk. It seemed to us that the 140 grain Berger vld hunting seemed to have better on game performance for us at 6.5-06 speeds than the 156 did. Seemed the 140 did more damage and still exited where the 156 was good for a golf ball sized exit but not near the internal damage from 50-600 yards. Anyone else seeing same results or was it just more of a sample size for the 140 compared to the 156?

I've killed dozens of criters with the 140 vlds. I started using the 156's last year, they have worked great on several animals and various distances.

156 EOLs do pretty good. I haven’t ever had anything walk away from one yet to go limp it off. This is in a 6.5SAUM @ 2975, so similar to a PRC

Higher velocity causes more trauma, you would probably be even more impressed wit the 130 at full noise

I been thinking about trying either of these bullets out if a 6.5 prc for elk?
Either will do fine. I've shot a few deer and elk with the 140 VLD and they worked well. I have a pile of the 156s on the shelf, just need to load them up.

Anyone have experience with the 140 EH vs the VLD? I’m just curious, seems like a lot more people have experience with the VLD. I have only used the EH in my 6.5 PRC, great performance on an aoudad in February.
