I’m venturing into using a .45 caliber muzzleloader and would like to use sabots. Im seeing muzzleloader specific bullet and sabot combos, which are priced much higher than what you typically pay when buying bullets and sabots separately. The only options I see that you can buy as a bullet only in the 200-225 grain category are either XTP’s or Noslers new offering intended for the .400 Legend.
I have used Hornady .452 FTX’s in Harvestor sabots in my .50 calibers with BH209 for years and I’m satisfied with them. I buy the bullet and Harvester sabots separately and it’s much more affordable than buying them together.
This will be a 22” Woodman Arms Patriot G3 with LR primer modules and I intend to use H4198. I’m concerned that the “new” Nosler offering will be pushed too fast in this application and obviously, there’s a similar concern for an XTP pistol bullet, plus the BC for both of those are quite terrible.
So, does anyone have any options they’d suggest that I can get in boxes of 50 or 100 like I can with the FTX?
I’m trying to avoid having to swage bullets if possible, so think sticking with Harvester sabots makes sense.
