375 h&h

I have kicked around the idea of a 375 for a while. I prefer to reload so my question is this. Is it necessary for safety reasons to crimp a 375 HH. I'm not interested In the accuracy debate, I have heard of a few guns blowing up in large calibers because of recoil and the bullets jamming deeper and increasing pressure. I was not sure if this is a concern in this caliber. Thanks

I have shot mine bothe crimped and uncrimped. When I was chasing speed with 300 grain bullets I was having to crimp to keep the bullet from pushing back out. With the loads I make it would be hard for the bullet to go much deeper as they are already compressed loads.

No need to crimp a 375 H&H, I have had several over the years and uncrimped ammo works just fine.

Take a look at a 375 Ruger guide rifle. I replaced my last 375 H&H with one. Huge improvement. Lighter, more compact, less bulky,
easier to carry, muzzle brake option. Mine is stupid accurate, much higher velocities than any of my previous 375's, the muzzle brake really tames the recoil, easy to reload for, not fussy at all.

If you want a 375 H&H for the nostagia and the panache, go for it; but from a tool standpoint, the Ruger wins hands down, they are
very popular in Africa and Alaska.

I view my firearms as tools that serve a purpose or need so I'm not married to one specific cartridge. I have also considered the 375 ruger.

I've had both the .375 H&H and the Ruger.

No real need for a crimp, but it never hurts if your bullet has a cannelure.
