In planning a 338 Win Mag rebore I was asked the question of how many grooves, 3, 4 or 5 - I don't have a clue - I believe 4 grooves is the norm but I've seen a high dollar custom rifle maker brag up their 5 groove bores - Does anyone have any suggestions or reasoning on this topic ? barrel length will be 24"

No, but I'll throw another one into the mix. The Hart barrels I use have 6 grooves:)

that's not offered so WHEW ! I don't have to think about that one .... decided to go with the 5 groove for no really specific reason ...

I have shot/owned .338WM rifles for 47 years, had about a dozen and currently own seven. I have/have had various tubes, Shilen, Hart, factory P-64 and Classic and whatever is on my two Dakota 76-.338s.

I doubt like h*ll that, for a HUNTING rifle, the number of grooves makes ANY difference and just go, as you seem to have, with whatever feels right to you.
