Has anyone tried the 270 grain ELDX out of a 338 edge? My son threw a load together to start with and it shot 2943 FPS out of a proof barrel. He is going to push it up and see how it shoots and where top end is. Attached is a 3 shot group for the first try that was shot off a bipod. He is jumping about 30 thousandths.

I was mainly running 300gn Bergers in my Edge. But a friend of mine put me onto the 250gn Bergers. I worked up a load with the 250s that gives me just over 3100fps in my edge.

The extra velocity I get from the 250gn bullets offsets the lower BC of the lighter bullet. And terminal performance of the 250gn bullet has been great.

I have a couple hundred Berger 250s left, but bought a few boxes of 285gn ELD-Ms just in case since Berger bullets have gotten so hard to find.

Ok
We run 275 grain CEB but my son wants to use something shorter in length for a magazine. I myself have no problem single feeding the CEB. So he was trying the eldx in 270 grain and jumping them and they act like they want to shoot. Seems like our best accuracy is at 2943. We are going to stretch it out and see how it acts but I am not sure how they will perform on game. I think at this velocity they have nothing over a 300 grain Berger.

I have two big 338s and single feed them both. I dont see the need to mag feed, though realise many people prefer to mag feed.

The Hornady ELD (both X and M) in 338 have pretty heavy jackets. Unfortunately I think that will limit expansion to around 1800fps. But I haven't used them on game myself as yet.

I use the 270 ELD-X in the 338 RUM exclusively. I've had several one shot kills from 60 out to 750 yards with loads using N570 at 2980 fps and H1000 at 2910 fps at the muzzle.

Let's just say that these bullets don't bounce off animals. They penetrate deep and expand reliably. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in the Edge if the precision is there.

Are you jumping them?
