Looking forward to following along. I'm planning to have him build me a ladder test once I get some readings on my current build

Jake has my rifle in his shop and is working on his measurements for load development. He is planning to test out N565 since it's been working really well for him in some other cartridges.

Load development is in work. Jake is going to try some H1000 and R26 next.

What seating depth? He should try .08-.1 off the lands, I swear that’s where I have my best luck with the vld’s.

Does he provide the ES and SD? Do you know what primers he used or does he do various testing with primers?

I like that N565 at 68.5gr the best so far on his testing.

I'm pretty sure the seating depth is set at .020" off the lands for this test. The bullets are 215 Hybrids, not VLD's.

He will provide all the load info when he gets it finished up. I think the primers are Federal 215.

The N565 at 68.5 grains strung out horizontally pretty bad. See that one shot to the right of the two touching?

The goal is to get good accuracy over 2900 fps. If it's much slower than that I'll probably start over with either a lighter bullet or a different barrel.

Well, it looks like Reloader 26 is going to be the winner. It was hitting 2925 fps when the heavy bolt lift started. I was able to find some Norma brass so Jake is pausing load development until I can get it to him. It should be an improvement over the Hornady but we'll see what the data says.

What are the rifle specs Justin? That’s moving and looks to be a shooter!

It's a Tikka action with a 24" Rock Creek barrel blank that was carbon wrapped by Hells Canyon. It's one of his original barrels.

I like the vertical gap on that load but on a 3rd grouping it’s really hard to judge without ES/SD, could of been the shooter etc. I think this is where me being anal would be hard to get away from my own loading 😂

Great to know! Can’t wait to get my 300wsm from my smith and start to develop, I have 20lbs of RL26 since it’s done so well in so many cals for me.

I went with a 26” instead of 24” I had when it was a 270wsm. Wonder if I’ll get close to 3000ft/s.

Looks like we are getting close. Jake said next step is a seating ladder loaded at 67.5 grains to assure we are in the sweet spot. I'm getting excited to get this rifle back out in the mountains.
