300 wsm 215

Ideal COAL is ~3.150 for the start of the BT to be just above the neck/shoulder junction. The bearing surface starts to go below the neck at ~2.900. Anything shorter than that would be silly. Somewhere between the two would be ok, but not ideal.

I wouldn’t choose to do it in a short action. Custom chambered medium action would the cats meow

215’s in a WSM aren’t much of a benefit in a hunting gun over say the 185’s. Marginal case capacity to push them fast enough to get the advantages. Even less so if you are going to do a short barrel.

Only reason I ask I can load to 2.95 without a problem.

It shoots everything I put in it fine just like to play.

I’ve used both 215 and 200.20x. With a 20” barrel I can push them at 2740 and 3.240”. A 200.20x I could get 2805 and 3.200”. Plan to run the 215.

I would never do them in a SA. These are in a Medium length.
