My biggest fear with Berger target bullets especially is that I make a bad wind call, the bullet drifts into a shoulder, and I wound an animal I can't recover.

Yeah, from a 300 rum? Yeah it's not going anywhere. I prefer those shoulder shots on those bigger critters with the larger magnums. I wouldn't dare a shoulder shot with like a creedmoor or 308 on something like elk

What kind of velocity are you getting with them?

I'll have to check my notes, have not gotten it out in awhile.....retumbo is hard to find here lately, gotta conserve what I got.

With what grain bullets, even 180s?

I’m using 200 grain Nosler Accubond with 94.0 grains of Retumbo @ 3.8”

At 50 yards I'd rather shoot them in the shoulder with a 215 from a 308 than a 215 from a 300 RUM. From a 308 it'd be about the same thing as a RUM at 600 yards, probably less explosive due to slower spin rate.

I wouldn't fear using a 215 in a rum but would probably step up to a 230 to slow down impact velocity on those close up shots.

Im using 95 gr Retumbo .300 RUM 200 gr Accubonds 3170 FPS already did a shoulder shot at 50 yds on a moose complete pass through no fragmentation.
