H4198 is what I used. I should probably shoot them up. I’m more of a velocity fiend lately lol.

What fps did you get them down to? I’m shootings through an AR at 950 fps. Coffee black and Hornady eld 208’s.

Really trying to dial in an effective <100 yard whitetail round.

I didn’t have a chronograph at the time. I jumped down to a pistol build but have a 16” barrel as well. What length barrel are you using? I’ll get them tested and let you know what I get.

You are asking for trouble with subs and whitetail hunting, especially at 100 yards. Those bullets will not expand at all at sub velocities and the drop/drift at 100 yards is atrocious. If you are lucky or good enough to guarantee head shots then maybe, but body shots are a no go.

Been there, done that. I was shooting 208ELD at 1048fps from an 8” SBR.

I agree - also found that shooting 125s over 296 at around 2000 FPS really isn’t terribly loud.

Me too... W296 and 1680 are solid.
Care to share any load recipes that worked out well with 1680? No worries if not, PM is fine if you want to. I have that powder and everything i need to start loading for my 8.5" ar except a good bullet selection. Right now i only have some maker rex 200gr

For heavier bullets (200 gr +), I believe you'll get around 1,000 fps with 10 grains of 1680. Check out Hodgdon online linked below to confirm with your bullets. One thing I'll add for subs, it that it's a little backwards over loading for supers in that you want to start high and work backwards... if you get a round that's too slow and jams in the barrel it's big trouble when the next one comes in behind it. I've been using the PC bullets from King's (https://www.kingshooters.com/bullet...unt-spire-point-bevel-base-sized-309-30149734). Used to be cheaper, but still not terrible and also available. You'll have to flare cases while reloading because of the PC coat, but they're fun for shooting and pretty quiet suppressed.

For supers, you can get around 2,000 fps for about double the powder (20 grains) using 125s. I've had luck with the TGK for accuracy (haven't killed anything with it yet) and just picked up a box of TNTs, I believe from Midway. The latter is a varmint bullet but some guys say the slower velocities from a blackout work good on deer and hogs at closer ranges.

Good luck!

id recommend going straight with the discrete ballistics sellous. Those kill the hell out of deer.

Looks like everything on discrete's site is available to purchase but on backorder, have you ever gotten anything on backorder from them? Wondering if thats worth doing or if i should wait till something is in stock

Edit: those bullets look badass. Same with the peregrine ones, id like to try both out someday

i bought a bunch back in the day so ive never had to backorder but I am just about out so i will need to get another one in soon.

Lehigh makes a similar bullet style for an alternative.

Ill say for the discrete stuff, they absolutely expand like their photos show. animals walk 20 ft and drop

Im glad i ordered some Lehigh a couple weeks ago cause i went on their site yesterday and they are no longer selling anything direct off their site :p says they're focusing on their distributors. Maker bullets has quite a few things in stock in various calibers still, i ordered some from them the same time as lehigh but thinking about ordering more now. I don't know if its really worth it to me but the cutting edge bullets look really nice too, just not sure they're worth almost twice the money as Lehigh or maker.. maybe for my other guns but idk about the 300bo

The problem with those large expanding rounds is the low energy levels of the 300 blackout rounds. At 188 grains it has less muzzle energy than a 45ACP. My experience with the Lehigh ME rounds are that they don’t pass through unless shot at bow hunting ranges.

A1680 here too. I have a break action TC Encore. I try for 1050fps but they are cracking supersonic in the cold weather. 240gr cast or I have some 240 expanding from a guy who used to operate Blackout Bullets. Haven’t seen them available in a few years. Never used them on our small deer but I would if a good shot was presented at 50-75 yards.

this is just my experience but im in the SE so all of my shots are 100yds and down. Within 100 yds, ive never seen a round drop animals faster than the discrete subs, not 556, not 308 monolithics, not 270. idk what it is. they plain ****
