So I did a ocw test and seem to have found a really good node I’m shouting 212 eldx with h1000 out of a 26”proof. My question is is my velocity to slow for what the gun is or am I overthinking the velocity aspect of long rang shooting. I’m at 76 gr h1000 @ 2810fps it’s sub 1/2 moa. I think there’s another node up around 80 @2950+ but didn’t seem to be as good as the 76. So do I need the 150fps with this rifle? It’s going to be my main hunting rifle and will be use out to probably 800 yards max for my abilities as of right now.
Thanks!
Here’s my ocw test for reference…71E772A2-4A20-4848-9E20-1CA43DE6B07A.jpeg

I couldn't get H1k to shoot very well out of my 30 Nos.
N570 does. with 215 Bergers @ 3060 fps
How does your load do at 800?

I’m building a 30 NOS right now. I chose the 30 nosler over other 30 caps because I wanted to shoot 215s or 212s in a 2950-3050 node. So I for sure would try the node around 2950. I’m sure with some jump testing you can find a great node there. If I couldn’t get that to work id try another bullet because I don’t have other powders in our current times. It’s all up to you and what you’re happy with, 2850 will be a great hunting round.

it looks like you quit at 80 grains. If there’s no pressure signs there I’d continue the ladder until you hit pressure. There may be another node around 3000.

At 800 yards I wouldn’t be too concerned about velocity. If you care, your velocity is low because those are probably light charges for a 30 nosler.

For reference, I run 84 grains of retumbo or 82 grains or h1000 to push a 215 Berger to 3,000 fps in my 30 nosler with ADG brass.

Yeah I did stop at 80 because the nosler book said max load for H1000 with a 210 was 79. I did not have any pressure signs at all so I’m with you I’m going to keep chasing it up and see if that node continues to improve and if that’s the sweet spot at 80 I’ll play with seating depth and see what that does for me. I’ve had a couple people say the 76 node looks really narrow and I agree so it might be tough to stay in it so I’ll continue up and see what it does!

Probably nothin wrong with that speed but I don’t think I’d settle for it even with a win mag.

Had almost the exact same results. Running right at 3070fps with the 215 bergers. H1000 didn’t cut it

The ones I build run a 215 at 3100 in 26" with H1000. Thats a hot load and Nosler primer pockets dont live long there. Hopefully ADG brass fixes that.

Keep going until you start to see pressure signs then back off a hair. Tune your load with seating depth. Just find a charge near your max that shoots well and then if you adjust your seating depth it'll tighten up. Just about any charge will tighten up at the correct seating depth.
