Hey y’all,
We met a lot of great people out on the trail! My fiancé, dog (Boone) and I drove down from Alaska. I just wanted to post on here because I didn’t get names and contact info from everyone who I chatted with. We met one mule deer hunter and I asked if he’d seen some elk. “Tons of elk!” was his response. He told me there was a pretty good bull in the group, he didn’t think he went 340 but was a solid 330.” And if you’re reading this, you were right! 336 3/4”
I’ve heard horror stories from out of state guys. But I had great experiences in Idaho with resident hunters. Maybe it’s because I drove from Alaska and not an adjacent state? Many offered us help and shared info on the trail. I want to thank you all for a positive experience! I’m not sure if I’ll ever be back, but never say never.
Thanks Idaho!
Cheers

Awesome hunt. Thanks for sharing.

I'm from WI. Have hunted 6 western states many times for various game through the years and don't recall a bad experience with local people yet. Have had a couple go way above and beyond to assist with game and vehicle recovery. Of course there's many who don't care to share more about their overall program than they have to, but nothing wrong or unusual about that; I don't expect anyone to give up their hard earned spots or local info.

Many ethics and personality conflict issues I've witnessed were on the part of out of staters. Just a broad generalization, but I've ran into more than just a couple through the years who had, for various reasons, a real sense of entitlement. Just last fall we hunted a good unit for elk that takes 7-8pts to draw. Sorry to report that we ran into another group of guys from WI - I know, we're everywhere - who basically expected someone to tell them where they could drive right up to a trophy elk, and they became visibly agitated at anyone who would've point them in the right direction. We shared a few areas that required a decent hike to get to, but when we ran into them later in the week they hadn't bothered to try them. We heard they'd stopped in several camps to try to shake down others for info and it wasn't well received.

That was a great experience for you and your supportive fiancée. She did a great job with packing from the pics. Nice hunting
