What do you guys recommend? I currently have a 300WSM X Bolt and really like it but am toying with the idea of getting a 28 Nosler. Is it worth it to buy another rifle/scope setup or just keep shooting the 300?

I had rebuilt a 300wsm that I've had since 2005. It is my favorite round. Unless you want another rifle your 300 wsm will do it. With that said, I want a 28 nosler. It is a very impressive bullet.

Since you already have a 300 WSM that you like and shoot well, stick with it. There is far too much overlap between these two calibers inside of 750 yards to make it worthwhile. That is unless you want to shoot elk and other animals even further.

Went through this myself over the past couple of months. I have a 300 Win Mag that flat out rocks but I want a new rifle. I looked at the 28 Nosler but couldn't do it as there was too much overlap with my 300 Win Mag. Also, I have a 6.5x284 for Coues and looked at the 6.5 PRC. Too much overlap there so that idea got scrapped.

If I was starting from scratch and wanted an elk gun, the 28 Nosler would be on my short list.

+1 in similar quandary about new gun choice - 300 WM vs 28 Nosler, or something else?

Well it sounds like I should keep shooting my WSM. I also have a 6.5 PRC that hammers deer and antelope so my bases should be covered. Thanks for the help.

A new gun is never a bad thing. Lack of ammo options would hurt ya on the 28. My next build may just be a 28!

If your in need of something “new” look into upgrading your stock, trigger or scope. That’s what I did and it’s pretty much a completely different gun. Started shooting 200 gr Hornady eldx, gun loves em. Maybe look into putting a brake on it, makes shooting more fun.

Hey man. The 28 Nosler is awesome. I own one. But replacing the 300 WSM doesn’t make sense to me. Unless you want a new, longer range rig, then go for it!

Inside of 500 yards the ballistics and energy are comparable. Once you start reaching out there, the 28 Nosler really shines. My 28 Nosler launches the 162 Grain EL-DX’s at 3,250 FPS. It maintains 1,260 ft lbs of energy at 1,000 yards. Ridiculous performance.

Nothing more needed then your 300. Wsm. If your looking for an excuse to get a 28 Nosler as well then set one up for carrying and one up for the longer pokes, heavier set up

I shot a 28 Nosler and it was smooth. It was a Christensen. 28 Nosler will be my next gun. The flatter trajectory has the potential to make a difference.

Is McMillan really the only company to produce an aftermarket stock for the Brownings?
