So originally I was shooting the nosler ammo 140 grain accubond at about 3/4 to 1 1/4 inch groups and I bought some cheaper ammo, federal premium 130 grain trophy copper which improved my groups to 1/2 to 3/4 for a deer hunt last year. Is it worth it to change up to a 150 or 160 grain partition for this hunt?

I would stick with the trophy copper if you are getting that good of accuracy out of it. They will work on elk.I have taken elk with the 129 lrx out of a .270 with no problems. I won't change up to a heavier bullet. Hard to beat 1/2 moa with factory ammo.

Stick with what is shooting well. That’s a tough bullet, shouldn’t have an issue on elk!

Ive killed two bulls with AB's out of the short mag. One at 505 and one around 200. The bull at 500 dropped in his tracks, but I put a second in him at the same distance to be sure. The bull at 200 ran 75 or so yards and piled up. Those AB's get a bad rap, but Ive killed 30 or so animals with it and none toted it off more than 100 yards (come to think of it, that one bull is the only animal to really get more than a few steps). Its not a half minute bullet out of my rifle, but it kills

I’ve killed a number of elk with the accubond 140 gr out of my 270 WSM. No problems with it at all. Also, I wouldn’t be worried about. 3/4” and 1 1/4” groups at all. That’s still a pretty tight group and in a hunting situation 1 1/4” away from where you were aiming is still a dead animal.

So I killed my Nevada bull with the 140 accubond at 199yds in 2018 and it performed perfectly, recovered both bullets on the far side shoulder under the skin. The reason I changed ammo/bullets was to do to ammo availability, deer season was coming up and I only had a handful of rounds left last year and decided to try the federal premium 130 copper because I could find it on the shelves and it was damn near 20 buck cheaper per box. I tried it and the 145 hornady eld x ammo and the federal shot substantially smaller groups so I sighted my rifle in with it and was banging steel out to 720 with it the same day. I have not shot anything with the 130 copper though.
