257 Weatherby

Anyone here shoot one? I bought one last year, a Remington 700 XCR, I love it. 1/2 MOA 3450 fps with a 115 Barnes TSX. Its my new favorite gun for deer.

I have two 270 weatherby magnum and 300 weatherby magnum. One 270 is an accumark and the other a fibermark. The 300 is Mark V stainless.
I love the weatherby rounds. Love the rifles too. I'm working on some reloads for my 270 now. I still to put a glass on my 300. The 300 is going be elk rifle

This round is on my short list when I'm ready for another rifle. I've always been fond of the 257. Brass has really been the only reason I haven't really done it yet. Plus, I have a couple of guns I really enjoy hunting with and would have a hard time leaving them in the safe.

the 257 "bee" is an awesome round and VERY addictive because of it's blinding velocities and lack of recoil - simply put, it's the 25.06 on steroids

I'm a fan. Mine is a Rem 700 Stainless BDL limited run that is very accurate. It's not picky about loads.

Being able to zero at 300 yards has come in handy twice when animals gave me brief opportunities at about that range without time to range it. Just paste crosshairs and trip the trigger.

Yep, got a vanguard, stainless synthetic. A little heavy to pack much but a flat shooter with 100g Barnes ttsx and 110g Accubonds.

It was Roy Weatherby's favorite cartridge. He shot everything from deer to moose with it.

Saw an elk taken with one and it is a sweet cartridge. I wouldn't use one on elk but as far as a deer caliber, it's a very good one.

yep, he even took it to south africa to hunt plains game. even killed a cape buffalo once with the 257wby

I've worked with a few 25.06's and a couple of 257 "bee"s - there is a difference that is hard to describe but it's like you have to work at getting the "best" from the 25.06 and the 257 bee out performs it with a distinct feeling of ease - very enjoyable cartridge to work up loads for although it DOES heat up a barrel (DAMN! Now I think I need one ...)

This will probably be my next weatherby caliber.
My pops turned me onto weatherby. I read the book and then it was down hill lol. I bought my three rifles last year and all of were weatherby made and weatherby cartridges
Top one is a Mark V 300wby

Second is Mark V accumark 270wby meopta optic

Third Mark V fibermark 270wby trijicon optic

Forth weatherby vanguard 30.06 leupold optic

I saw a Weather guard at cabelas in 257 for $799, I was so close to buying it. If I didnt have the 700 I would have.

I have been really wanting a .257, I have been looking into getting a Tikka re-chambered and barreled. Anyone ever done or seen that done?

There is something to be said about shooting a rifle that you have no fear of every time you pull the trigger. The 25 and 6.5 calibers are where I believe that threshold is for most people. Even bigger rifles with a muzzle break on them still make you think twice about the noise. I shoot 2-3000 center rifle rounds a year and I can't say that I don't think twice about recoil on 7mm and up magnums.

Being able to aim and call your shot to within inches may be more valuable than more power. The 257 weatherby may be the best example of this.
