I’m currently shooting CCI Standard Velocity 40gr and with my setup they shoot really good groups!

I’m wanting to shoot something with a bit more “oomph”…..now, I know these are not what a 22LR is for, but I want to get the most out of what I have! I want it for situations such as close range yotes, foxes, hogs in traps, etc….assuming all head shots 50yds or less.

The 2 choices I have in mind are both CCI Ammo…..40gr Velocitors vs 32gr Stingers. Do I go lighter/faster with the Stingers or a bit less speed but more weight with the Velocitors?

Stingers 32gr 1640fps
Velocitors 40gr 1435fps

I have never shot a pig but shot a yote with cci subs at a hair over 100 yards a few years ago. I don't think there is much more performance you can get out of a 22 than standard velocity cci's.

headshots inside 50 yds its not really going to matter. CCI stingers require a different chamber although I and I'm sure many others have used them in reg 22lr chambers, but the brass is longer on them. velocitors were my go to years ago as they were the most accurate HV out of my 10/22. stingers were never consistent, so out of those 2 I would use velocitors. the 2 I use now are federal match hunters or wolf match, whichever I can find first. and like others say, accuracy above all.

IMO I would give preference to what shoots and groups best. I don’t think the marginal difference is worth changing up things. FWIW my rig functions more reliably with 40s vs lighter stuff.

The Velocitors are hammers in my experience. And also happen to be extremely accurate out of my 10-22T

Stingers have their place for sure but high velocity combined with light bullet will limit penetration. They will wreck a squirrel or rabbit but Wouldn’t be my first choice on a coyote or pig
