2025 saw me finally take a good Alaska Moose - my hunting partner and I party drew any bull tags up in Interior Alaska (we are both residents).
Planned to be out for a week and was fortunate to call these bulls in on day 2 and 4! Spent 40 or so hours processing out at home - we do all of the cutting, trimming, wrapping and freezing our own in my home.
We were camped a mile down this creek on the mouth into the main river body. Morning and Night did several calling sessions with 3-5 minutes of raking followed by 3 unites of silence for 30-45 minutes then an hour of quiet. A few Cow calls but weren't planning on those doing as much. More just in case since we were hunting earlier and it was warm.
Second Night walking back to the point saw my Parters bull across the creek - standing free hand 150 yard shot with his 300 WinMag. One and done. Took us a bit to get back to the canoe and cross over and find him. Very little blood as the hit was farther back. Easy packout - and a slightly sketchy single trip down in the canoe the next morning.
2 days later my bull came out of the treeline over 700 yards away and worked him with calling and waiting to 89 yards where my 280AI finished him quickly. Most blood I've ever seen in a body cavity. Pretty amazing. Missed the 60" club by less than an inch.
Was a fantastic trip, and I think as cool as it is seeing a big guy waddle as he slips between the trees .... i might be ok with just shooting little meat bulls from now on!
