I was fortunate to scout up a great Idaho buck this summer and get him on opening day of the General Idaho rifle deer hunt.
He lived in thick, difficult country to hunt with limited vantage points to get open angles. Prior to the season I only saw him 1 out of 7 days but on opening morning….it was foggy, cold, with light snow and sure enough there he was!
I spotted him at first light and over the course of the morning managed to sneak within 105 yards (too close for comfort but that was really my only play). I ended up being in that tight for over 7 hours until finally just before dark I got my chance and got him. I can’t think of a more rewarding way to kill a big buck!
Sorry for the poor field photo- he died in a brush hole and it was getting late.
