Heads Up Decoy system = DEADLY

2012 first turkey 4.jpg

This hunt took 16 minutes. This dude was over the ridge with some hens. He gobbled, spit and drummed like crazy. He probably gobbled in the neighborhood of 175 times. He was low out of sight so I finally grabbed my bow by the bottom limb and lifted in the air, while calling. This was enough to give him a visual. I move a couple yards and got positioned....I spotted the light bulb when he spotted the decoy....Holy crap get ready...cuz he was coming. He went from 50 to 13 yards in seconds......then got shafted! Article and good pics to come.

Nice Job Les! Using a HUD is by far the funnest way to archery hunt gobblers....Believe it or not it works in the fall as well, they just aren't as aggressive.

First bird of 2012 was laid to rest for me today in SD. Gotta love the merriams! After having numerous birds pass by my decoy set just outside of bow range and not wanting to come any closer I decided to refute to my favorite type of hunting.....SPOT AND STALK! I was able to slip in on numerous birds as this tom was strutting his stuff. A 20 yard shot had this gobbler down for the count! Love this game!

I was also using Wac'em XL2 heads. Their new two blade head that flies just as good as their other heads. They did a great job!

My wife got this 24.9 Tom on Saturday am at 10:30, the first bird we heard gobble of the day. This Heads Up Decoy system is incredible. 10.5" beard, 1 1/8" spurs.

I took my son to W Nebraska for a couple days...

He shot his first big gobbler w/ a 8"+ beard and nice spurs.

He then traded in his shotgun for his bow, but found out its a bit harder getting only feathers...

Drove up to the Northern half of the Golden State and try my hand at some turkeys. Went with two buddies who know how to get it done when it comes to thunder chickens!

I ended up arrowing two (one Saturday morning and one Sunday morning) birds about the same size......9" beards and 1" spurs. Had a great time in some gorgeous country.

Saturday's bird arrowed at 9 yards......Sunday's bird arrowed at 10 yards.
