Ended up with an either sex elk tag this year. I have two bullets to choose from. 30 cal Berger 180g elite hunter and 200g ELDX. Out of these two what would you choose. I’ve shot and witnessed several animals killed with Berger bullets and I have confidence in there performance. I have never shot anything with the ELDX so don’t know what to expect. Shots will be less than 400 yards. These will be launched out of 300wsm.

At less than 400.....I'd choose neither. They both excel at longer ranges. In the 2800fps neck of the woods, I'd want something a bit thicker skinned.

This coming from a guy with a bunch of elk killed with match bullets. They work well....but at close range they are good for bloodshot meat and high percentage shots only. Once they slow down into the low 2's, they hold together pretty well.....

But if you're not going to take advantage of the slick BC, I'd aim 2" higher and shove a partition home.

My wife and I have shot numerous animals from antelope to elk with Berger bullets from 6.5 130 gr 270 wsm 130gr to 140gr a 300 wm 180 gr Elite hunter not one shot has been farther than 300 yards. Most of the animals are bang flop except the elk but not one elk has made it out of site. Not one elk have been shot at more than 100 yrds most have been under... Last year was the first time we didnt kill a elk since we moved to Wyoming most years we kill two...

Shot a bear and a cow elk with 200grain eldx out of a 300wsm. Both dead stat. Both under 200yds.

how about the berger 205g elite hunter? perhaps a little closer comparison to the 200g eld-x? not sure if that 205 is out yet as i haven't seen any in stock anywhere (could just be like everything else...).

Never shot any Berger bullets. Theyll probably kill what you need them to tho. Good luck. I shoot what I can get now. Down to my last 4 eldx in 300wsm.

Shot a few elk with 200 gr eldx in a 300 win mag. Would not be my first choice in terrain where sub 100 yd shots are possible. Past 100 yds I’d use with confidence. Under 100 yds the bullet comes apart and LOTS of bloodshot meat. Elk was quite dead but more than usual meat loss

I have been using the eld-x for 4 years now out of my 300 win mag. Both the 200 and 212. Have had great success with both. Killed four elk from ranges of 300-500. Bullets have performed with out issues.

Either should do the trick. I’d say whichever shoot better out of your particular rifle.

I've had good luck with the 200g Eld-X. Most shots at 200+ yards from a 300WM. Shoots great out of my rifle, which is the most important thing for me.
