Thinking it's about time for a newer pickup. I have a 09 King Ranch at the moment. Love it, but it's getting some miles and starting to rust and I think it's time to send it down the road.

Anyone having any issues with the 2015+ Fords? They're aluminum so they shouldn't rust, anyone having any corrosion issues with them? Any electrical issues or mechanical issues? I'd probably prefer a 5.0. 6.5ft box and a 36 gal tank is a must.

My 09 has been pretty good. A couple little things here and there but nothing I cant google and then fix. Seems like any problems I've had have been pretty common with a lot of info about them online.

So 2015+ ford or is it time to switch to a Toyota??

I've had a few of them as company trucks and my current pickup is a '16 crew cab 3.5 ecoboost with 110k on it. Going to replace rotors/pads on it soon and that is the first time i've done more than an oil change or alignment to any of em but I've never had one this high in mileage either.

AL beds and tail gates get dinged up a bit more and if you have body damage it's going to hurt more than a steel bodied pickup but that's about the only negative I've experienced.

Infotainment setup is convenient. For sure wouldn't buy a chevy over one. '22 tundra is enticing if buying new though.

I have a lease on a 270k acre ranch that is as steep and rough as anywhere. The maintenance crew and guides all drive recent F150s. They’ve been through all the others as fleet vehicles and will tell you the F150s are the only trucks that hold up to long term use.

Things sound positive on the newer fords. My dad and I have always drove them. I've actually never owned anything but a ford. One of the biggest draws for me is keeping my aftermarket Method wheels off my 09...just wish the topper would fit the newer model.

I trade every 2-3 years. Had a 2016 and now have a 2018. Both the 2.7L. It sounds like a small engine but it has more than enough power to tow trailers up the mountain at full speed and the gas mileage is great. My full size camper is 5500 dry and absolutely no issues pulling it. The 36 gallon tank is a must- 700 miles+ on a tank sure is nice. I have had zero issues with anything other than finding the right truck to trade for this year. New stock leaves the lot before it gets there over the last 6 months.

I would be open to the right eco boost. Even the 2.7. I have a couple buddies that drive them and they probably have better power than my old 5.4.

I had a 2006 F150 (5.4L) that I drove for 10 yrs and 209,000 miles and traded it in in 2016 for a '16 model (5.0 L). I currently have 106,000 miles on the 2016. I just replaced the factory battery 3 weeks ago and the original front brakes this week. Other than that and oil changes, I've not had to do any mechanical work to either truck......but I probably just jinxed myself.

I'll try to be as objective here as possible.

I've had three new F150's that I bought off the lot. Only one, an '18 was in the date range you're looking at. All had issues with rear axles. For the '18 it was turning into a shitshow. First the reverse camera went out at 30k miles. No worries as it was replaced under warranty. Had a parking brake fault at just over 60k miles. $1800 repair bill for that one but Ford was able to cover some of it due to my previous purchases. 65k miles and my cam phasers, chain tensioners and timing chain need replacing. You'll know you need that done if there's a rattle upon cold start. That was a $3600 repair that again Ford went good on covering a portion of. Not long after that my rear axle started to display signs of issues. Typical of a bad differential which I've had on all of my F150's. I was done. I drove that F150 down to Illinois and traded it on a Tundra. That Ford was going down a bad path I didn't want to continue on.

If I were to buy one today I'd get a 5.0. If I intended on keeping it beyond the standard 3/36k warranty I'd go get an extended warranty from Flood Ford and have peace of mind. I'd be listening very intently on startup and ask the dealer not to move or touch the truck before you show up. That cold start rattle is pretty common on the F150 after doing more research.

They're not bad trucks all in all really. Comfortable, roomy, good power, but to me they're simply not as reliable as a Toyota. All have their pros and cons and for me the cons just outweighed the pros.

You had cam phaser issues on your 5.0? I know that was a big problem on the 5.4.
My dads pickup has had the rear end gone through once...had pretty bad chatter when pulling and turning under power. I think the clutch pack was preplaced.

My 5.4 has been good. Only issues have been small....and not engine related.

2019 F-150 XLT FX4 crew cab w/ 6.5' bed and a topper with a bedrug. I've had it just over 2 years now and I haven't had any issues. I've put 25K miles on it so far through 2 hunting seasons and it's been a great rig. That includes a lot of western ND gravel, MT gumbo mud, CO mountain roads, and highway miles in between. I swapped the cheap stock tires for duratracs a couple months after buying the pickup. The 3.5L Ecoboost averaged 21 mpg with the stock tires and around 18-19 mpg lifetime average since swapping to duratracs. I looked at most new 1/2 tons before buying this one and if I had it to do over I'd buy another F-150.

Nope, sorry, should have clarified that. Cam phaser issues were on the 3.5 ecoboost.

I have a 2016 3.5 Ecoboost. 6.5' bed with large fuel tank. It just rolled over 105k miles and, knock on wood, I've had zero trouble with it. I bought it at 2 years old with about 40k on it.

Following. I'm looking at F150's in this year range also. I want to find a supercrew cab with 6.5' bed and the 3.5L ecoboost. I've personally always bought and drove GM, so switching to Ford feels like sacrilege. However, in recent years I've had both GM & Ford work trucks, both were pretty good trucks, no major issue with either. But I have issues with my sciatica, and the ford seats don't seam to bother it nearly as bad as the GM seats do. That plus after driving the 3.5L ecoboost, I sorta fell in love.

I stopped many ranchers asking about their EB Fords, most said trading because after 150,000 turbos will go bad, most said 5.0 or another brand, I went with a 3/4 ton Ford

Cam phasers are an issue beyond 2017.

The most recent Ford service bulletin addressing the issue (TSB 21-2119) applies to 3.5L Ecoboosts with build dates up to 10/31/2019. I just had the VCT unit replaced on our family vehicle (2019 Expedition Max) to get rid of the cold start rattle. Mine was covered 100% by the original 60,000 mi powertrain warranty.

i have the second gen of the 2.7 in a 2020 xlt i didnt want the first year of a new edition and the newest 2.7 seems to do well in terms of reliability when compared to the other powertrains. its not enough truck for a lot of guys but its got a lot of pep for a 2.7 it is surprising and suites me fine. I am pleased with it so far. its got some tech but not too much tech but i will possibly get the extended warranty through one of the big dealers to protect myself
