Looking into trying out Berger factory ammo, anybody here use the 130otm hybrid ? Curious if they preform well out to 5-600 on whitetail, I have been looking into these just because I could sell the lapua brass after I run through a couple boxes

I’ve had mixed results on Whitetails and pigs. I trust the expansion characteristics of the hunting VLDs and ELD-Ms more. I think the OTMs like a little more impact velocity.

They have worked well for me out of an AR platform 18” barrel Grendel. Lowest impact velocity was 1920-1940 fps range and performed really well. My muzzle velocity is just under 2400 fps.

My experience with Berger loaded ammo in general is that SDs have been much higher than other mfg’s. Also, out of 4 different 6.5CM barrels, the 130 OTMs shot well out of 1 barrel, mediocre out of another, and terrible out of the other 2. They aren’t a go-to choice for me, but if you want to try them, I’d grab the federal loaded ammo.

I wouldn’t worry about killing white tails with them tho.

What’s your beef with that bullet as a killing bullet?

The Berger 130 otms have worked good for my wife shooting a Tikka 6,5 creedmoor from antelope to elk most of been bang flop the one that have walked didnt go very far nothing farther than 320 yards of yet...

Not as a killing bullet. I was saying that Berger loaded ammo has had high SDs IME, which is not a go to for long range for me. I bought a couple thousand rounds of Berger loaded ammo when the shortage was still in swing, and Ive been somewhat disappointed in the lack of MV consistency.

The 130 OTMs have generally shot poorly out of several barrels, which is also not a go to for me. Obviously they could shoot well out of a barrel, but other ammo has been far more consistent lot-to-lot and barrel-to-barrel IME.

There’s ammo that I would (and have) ordered a thousand+ rounds before I have a barrel in hand, but the 130’s are not it. I’d want to make sure I had a sample first and then order a specific Lot # in bulk if they actually shot well & had decent SDs.

Understood, I thought you were referring to the bullet not being a choice of yours. I haven’t had a chance to kill anything larger than a rock chuck with them.

I’ve had good luck with that bullet out of the same barrel (PVA Osprey) with federal loads as well as the Berger loaded. Federal had better SD (8.7 fps) but the Berger was not bad at 11.9 fps with 26 ES over 10 shots.

On another note, back before it was discontinued, the Berger loaded 215 hybrid 300 win mag ammo was insanely accurate and had single digit SD in the one lot I had of it.

The 300 win 215s and the 6.5 cm 130 hybrids are my only experiences with Berger loaded ammo.
