I’m sure this has been discussed here at length, I’m going to ask anyhow.

Shooting a loft 29.5
28” draw
70lb draw
VAP TKO
TAW 490 with 125gr head and getting about 275fps

Would it be worth losing some FOC and dropping down to 100gr head to pick up some speed.

Also, how much speed would I pick up going from 125 to 100?

You’ll probably gain 7-8fps. Only you can decide if it’s worth it to you. I always aim for mid 280 fps so I adjust my front weight accordingly, if I have to.

IMHO, dropping to 100gr might gain you 5-10 fps, but it will potentially affect penetration. Test it and see how it flies and penetrates.

25 grains and 8ish fps isn’t changing penetration one bit. Further, the vast majority of bow hunters wouldn’t notice that speed difference inside of normal bow hunting distances.

I’d stay with the 125s for the sole fact that most 125 grains are more robust than their 100 grain counterparts.

125 GR ALL DAY . Helps steer the arrow and help with FOC . Huge fan of QAD and Slick Trick . Great flight .

I think the difference is splitting hairs. Whatever shoots best or is easier to shoot is what I would use. Either set up will not make a difference, good or bad.

Do what you have most confidence in. Both will kill effectively with a good shot, neither will do better with a bad shot.

Velocity isn't the question. Do you have a 250 or 300 spine. Because that 125 is going to be too heavy for a 300 spine at that poundage. For every millimeter that shaft flexes you are losing penetration on impact. Velocity be damned.
Idk why it's not brought up more. But when it comes to weight. You need to get on one of the online calculators. I think podium archery has the best one. Punch in all of your info and start a graph to track your velocity, momentum, and kinetic energy. What you will find is at some point on the graph all 3 will intersect. That is YOUR perfect arrow weight. And every person will have a different number.

Shoot both, and pick the one that groups better!

I was playing with a 3d arrow a few summers ago, it was borderline on being under on spine and I wanted speed, I started at 85 grains for point weight, shot and tuned ok, bumped to 100 with no effect, put a 125 on and it just shot, one of the best sets of arrows I had ever shot, 100 yd groups were fantastic!

The gain and loss in speed and penetration from 25 grains is virtually nothing, test it and see if there is a difference in groups!

I'd leave it alone, especially if you've been shooting it a lot and your sight tape is dialed in/bow is tuned. I don't think having to re-tune the bow and sight would be worth it for 25 grains.

FWIW, I'm shooting a very similar setup to you.
V3X 33 @ 28.5", drawing 77.6 pounds
Arrows - 487 grain TAW, VAP TKO 300 Spine, 125 grain heads, 4 fletch AAE Max Stealth

This setup shoots anything I put on the front of it extremely well and groups at distance.

OMG, anyone telling you there is a significant difference in those 2 setups is full of Kaka.

You won't be able to tell the difference in trajectory out to 40y unless you are a top 1% shooter.

Penetration is all about perfect arrow flight- the arrow following directly behind the BH. A little bit of tip weight either way doesn't mean JACK if your arrow has perfect flight.

Spend your time working on your form, skillset and BH tune your bow.

I’ve got .300 axis with 175 grains up front cut 29” carbon to carbon tuned out of an 82# Ventum 33 at 29”.

There’s no way the OP needs .250s at the specs as identified.
