Yesterday montanas youth season opened and I went out with a guy I work with and his son to get his 10 year old his first buck. We have a apprentice program here and he can begin hunting at that age. We found a nice buck at daylight and the hunt was on it took 4 stalks never could get him close enough or with good wind to move in before he got a shot at the buck. The kid did awesome he laid there for a solid 2 minutes calming himself before the shot like he was taught in his "bb gun" class in the end I grossly miss judged this buck and the kid ended up with a buck we think will break 190

I need to sign up for that bb gun course would have taken me much longer to settle down. Congratulations what a great deer first or last.

Might be a good year for deer. That's the third really nice buck i've see taken by first or second year hunters.

That poor, poor kid...he is officially ruined:D. It's hard to start off that good, then reality sets in the following seasons.

That's a great story! Good job teaching that young man a lesson in patience and waiting for a clean shot. What a first buck - sheesh!
