I just got back last night from my 10 day, solo Kodiak goat hunt and to say that I am totally exhausted is probably an understatement. I currently have a lot of work to do with unpacking, etc. When I am done with my chores I'll write up a complete story on the hunt but for now I'll just post up a few pictures.

Well done sir! Can't say Kodiak is a solo hunt on my bucket list! Any bear activity? Seems everyone I know that's been down lately has had a lot of encounters including deer taken and bears in camp.

Congrats! Just recently did a two week solo myself. It's quite an undertaking, not even killing a goat. Awesome!

Wow looks like an awesome hunt. I hope to do something like that some day. What tarp and bivy is that? Looking at getting a similar set up.

OK, so here goes. I flew down to Kodiak the morning of October 4 and was very fortunate in the fact that there was a high-pressure system without a single cloud and a little to no breeze. I met up with Taj Shoemaker, my pilot, and we drove out to the basin, loaded up the super cub, and headed for DG474 (Uganik goat). I've goat hunted this tag the last two years, once with a party tag and last year with my sons tag, so I'm starting to feel pretty familiar with the area in general. I knew that I wanted to fly into a higher, smaller alpine lake, something that would get me above the alders and also something that wouldn't be accessible with a beaver. I had three different lakes picked out and, after flying over all of them and getting an idea of what the goat population was like around them, I settled on a lake at about 2000' elevation. The lake that I chose was just out of the DG474 area, so it required that I hike up a drainage to a saddle then cross over onto another mountain that would put me in DG474.

We put down on the lake right around noon and after unloading my gear, I immediately erected a bear fence to put around several dry bags loaded with emergency type stuff, (extra food, four season mountaineering tent, extra clothes, etc.), then off I went.

I'll put the story together in a few segments as my schedule permits. I'm still pretty busy and today is my wife and my wedding anniversary. More to come later.
