Well, my new Lowa Ranger III boots arrived today. Pretty disappointing. I see why they are clearing them out. The previous model I bought 10 years ago was better, primarily because it had a better sole. But also the Ranger III has a pronounced ledge on the TPU insole that bothers my foot...it...
Yeah, the Baltoro (like so many boots) has a pointy/skinny toe box...I guess that's how some people's feet are shaped. I guess, lol. I vastly prefer a wider, more square toe box, as is the case with the Scarpa Zodiac.
I feel like the Scarpa Zodiac's run 1/4-1/2 size small...so I size up 1/2...
I see a lot of folks on here recommended the Techs. I bet just about anything the Zodiac Plus would be far better for you than the Tech. For reference, I have the Baltoro Lites in hand, and despite being quite new/fresh, the flex is a flimsy "1", whereas the Zodiac Plus is probably a 2 or 2 1/2...
Did you pick up a pair of Scarpa Zodiac boots, either the Tech or the Plus? I'm coming from the other side of the equation, where I've been wearing the Zodiac Plus and for me, are by far the best "fast and light" hunting/trekking boots out there (compared to MANY other pairs I've tried and...
Yup. I wanted to have all bases covered, so I too picked up some Schnees Granite Pros, for the burliest boots I could get my hands on...but I almost never wear them. When I'm going to be in and out of crampons on a hunt, I like to use these boots with fully automatic crampons.
Overall, since...
Bought my young teenager some Hanwags with the Integral Light Sole. I am impressed. For aggressive traction in loose soils, the Integral Light Sole dawns the best looking tread pattern I've ever seen! Reviews of Alverstone II, and other boots with these soles inevitably reference "good...
Okay, that's good to know, on both accounts! I don't want my kid getting wet feet, obviously; in his case, due to how fast he's growing, the shrinking issue won't be issue because he'll only get about 15 uses (one season) before he out grows them anyhow. Come to think of it, I saw post where...
But since purchasing, I recall reading a couple reviews that indicated the waterproof membrane didn't hold up long in the Makra Treks...which, I believe were in reference to the red and black, Combi look-alikes. Or maybe the reviews were in reference to the Combi themselves, I can't recall...but...
So I just ordered a pair of the Hanwag Makra boots for my son, because they were on good sale...and good sale is key here, because my kid is 13 and outgrows boots like crazy, so I refuse to pay $275. Actually bought him two pairs...the first one was this Makra Trek pictured here:...and I was a...
Ahhh, yes, I have these too...the Scarpa Ribelle HD. I have many boots for many different occasions, but I'll where these when I pack crampons! But they are pretty good for serious terrain even if you don't wear crampons...I feel like I have an average foot profile, and these fit me perfect (so...
In my particular case, I wasn't looking for the absolute tightest possible pattern, as I was looking for long range duck, goose and pheasant loads. But out of this particular gun/barrel, I did in fact try improved modified and then full chokes, but the patterns didn't get any tighter than this...
So you really got me thinking, because I'm not a turkey hunter (keep that in mind please, lol) and do not take anything I say as gospel. But generally speaking, I have a lot of experience with TSS, patterning, etc.
I probably need to research the penetraton data further to see the minimum shot...
Well you definitely don't want the turkey flying off wounded. I don't agree with the +3 for TSS vs lead...I'd say it's more like +4, because it's about the penetration. That's my experience. If shooting for head and neck, I'd personally favor more pellets, as opposed to larger pellets. But, now...
Hmmm. No one and only right answer her. Depends on the young shooters ability, but I very may well think about Improved Cylinder with TSS if it were my kid. Improved Cyl is pretty darn tight with TSS, and it'll still reach to 50 yards, with a little more forgiving pattern. You could go to...
Right, you never really what's going down (as in down-range, lol) until you pattern. I think you absolutely could have good success with a traditional turkey choke and traditional turkey lead loads...but there's no denying TSS will allow you to reach farther (they are capable of patterning...
Thanks for the pic! The tread pattern does indeed look more aggressive, with more spaced out lugs...though the lugs look to lack a little depth for my liking (I like about 5mm deep, and those look to be more like 4mm...but I emphasize "look", because I don't know).
Ah, my bad, I hasn't read this post first. Seems Hanwag is in fact a good options. I actually just picked up a couple pairs of Hanwags for my son...and one in Lady's, because his feet haven't smooshed out yet and are remain on the narrow side.
So that's another idea...how about women's specific...
Interesting dilemma. Should a boot company have just a few models, and offer in several different lasts...or should they stick to a particular foot type/width and make a bunch of different models for various needs. I don't know the answer, but seems like most have chosen the latter. In this...
I may use him as well, but darn, I have to pay shipping both ways, so about $190...getting a little costly when I can wait for a sale and get the same brand new boots for $250. Gosh, I wear down so many pairs of boots that I'm seriously considering learning how to resole myself!
