This is exactly what I ended up doing and have mine mounted in the same position but with the rear ring slid forward just enough to fit an UM Tikka level behind the rear ring which makes for a super compact setup. I was initially skeptical about slightly obstructing the ejection port with the...
I don't see the advantage of the RF.1 over the CRF.1 other than longer range at the expense of a larger, more expensive unit, but maybe I'm missing something.
I'm looking for my first (and hopefully only for a long time) rangefinder for western elk hunting. I've read a lot of threads without a clear consensus, but is the Maven CRF.1 the current middle weight recommendation? I've seen the more expensive RF.1 recommended often but am skeptical of the...
I found mine on Out and Back Outdoors, but they only had one available when I bought mine. I forget what I ended up paying, but I think it was roughly half the price of a new pop-up 30 locally.
Very well said and I completely agree about the larger pop ups largely defeating the purpose. Like you, I just want something that acts as a compact day bag without much compromise but can be used to haul heavier loads when needed - either to pack out the first load while heading back to base...
I have a Nightforce NXS Compact 2.5-10x44 that I'm mounting to a T3x Superlite and deciding which rings to try. Has anyone here tried this set up with Matchforce TO84 rings and did you run in to issues with eye relief where the compact optic couldn't be positioned back enough because the front...
Right on, sounds exactly like what I'm looking for - slim enough that the frame isn't a big compromise when acting as a day bag but with the ability to haul out the first load back to a dedicated meat hauler so that subsequent loads are a little lighter or I can cut out a trip.
I ended up ordering a new old stock gen 2 Pop Up 28 for about half the price of a new Pop Up 30. Unfortunately I'm in Canada where everything is marked up even before conversion. It's actually good to hear that the 28 was too small for some people because I tend to pack very light and am worried...
I ended up ordering a Pop Up 28 Gen 2 for a good price although I'd probably run an 18L if they were still available, but I also like the idea of being able to shoot or glass from the telescopic Gen 2 frame. I might try adding an optics thumb screw similar to the current Pop Up 30.
After reading a ton of old threads and reviews, they definitely sound a bit polarizing where most people love them but a small minority find them horrifically uncomfortable. I ended up ordering a Pop Up 28 Gen 2 for a decent price so I'm hoping for the best.
That's good to hear and the kind of information I'm looking for. I've found that newer gear is not necessarily always better than the discontinued stuff. Do you know if you have the Gen 1 with folding frame shown here or the Gen 2 with a telescopic frame like this? I read a few old threads with...
I'm looking for my first day bag and while I haven't handled one in person, I like the idea of Mystery Ranch's Pop Up which can be primarily used as a compact day-pack but expanded to carry the occasional heavy load or act as a platform for glassing and shooting. I can pick up a new old stock...
Looks like a great set up. I've considered STD bases and STD extended rings, but I'm unsure about the extra height and am skeptical about the reliability and repeatability of the adjustable base.
Do you know if that stock has a 14" LOP? I think many aftermarkets are 13.5" which might make the difference. Maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and try a few different options.
I definitely prefer the look and simplicity of direct mount rings like that, but the extra 1/2" on a factory Tikka LOP might make the difference. I'm planning a custom Wildcat Composites stock down the road but need to manage the factory stock in the meantime. Someone needs to make cantilevered...
Are you referring to the Sako Optilock rings? I definitely like how slim & low profile they are and a recoil pin system is almost a must for me, but it looks like the front ring would be stuck in a fixed position and can't be relocated with different recoil pin placement like the Unknown...
From what I've seen, the steep objective angle means that scope usually runs in to the front of the rail before you can move it any further back than direct mount rings unless you run taller rings. Tough to explain, but you can see what I mean in this thread. I should have specified in my post...
I'm mounting a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 Compact on a Tikka T3x and am struggling with the short 5.1" mounting length. While I admittedly do not have the scope in hand, I'm reading every forum post available while deciding which rings to try. Initially, I was planning on the popular Sportsmatch...
