I sure hope so! The investment in gear was the most painful thing for me. I thought I had a lot of hunting.... Until this. Ha ha. Thanks for the fair warnings and good luck wishes!
I can check all of those boxes. I appreciate the insight. I've never done this in the actual mountains, but have done similar with Mule Deer in the bluffs. (Smaller animal, but no different in clean and pack out) I have read the regs front to back several times since I posted. Good there. Not...
I finally got a hold of CO DNR and they made this way easier than I was making it on myself. It sounds like it's pretty wide open to just go in with a bow and a tag, camp gear, and hunt where legal to do so. You're absolutely right. No talking me out of it at this point. Ha ha
Appreciate the bold honesty. I can see how an inquiry like mine puts me in the oversized dumpster of idiots who have no business in the woods. I am used to paying for a tag, and going to hunt. This whole OTC and Mountain hunt thing, is new to me. Everything else I have been doing for years...
On X Elite guy here 🙋🏼♂️ Although, admittedly, not 100% familiar with the ins and outs of the app. For everyone's information in hopes to not sound quite so ignorant.... I am actively researching and looking into all this rigorously. Every day. This is my dart at the board attempt for an easy...
Been "studying" for at least a year. Just forgot to do the most important part. Figure out where to go. I have the gear. (Stupid expensive gear at that. And yes I know expensive doesn't mean perfect)
I workout 5 days a week at minimum, hike with 50lbs up and down hills or "train" constantly...
Appreciate this. Kinda where I'm confused. All gray "valid" units are legally huntable with a tag? I'm honestly just trying to avoid driving all the way there without a solid place to park and possibly camp if needed.
So I've noticed 😑 I get it. But I'm not asking for a particular spot. Just a general area to start. Like, "try the Gunnison area" you know "Learn the lay of the land" and all that good stuff. It's going to be a shot in the dark regardless.
That's what I'm struggling to find. Some say there's tons of available areas. Others say the days of OTC are gone. I also tried emailing CO DNR but no responses. Give me a town and I'll pack the truck. Ha ha
I'm sure this has been discussed at length elsewhere, but I'm getting dizzy trying to get a straight answer. Here's the low down;
- want to go DIY hunt on public, set up camp, fend for myself
- not picky on Bull or Cow, don't care about trophies
- willing to just buy small game and get my feet...
For sure! I hit the gym without fail 5 days a week focusing on progressive overload and do "enough" cardio. But, this will be my first real challenge as far as hiking steep inclines with weight. Most I've done prior is the Missouri River Bluffs of South Dakota with a day pack so I want to be...
In recent years, the theory of the importance of stretching has changed a bit. Especially in the fitness world. What are some thoughts from personal experiences of doing some stretching before, after, or both, on a Mt./steep hills-type of hunt?
I'm also trying to plan daily meals for a trip. I'm used to eating a ton of protein daily for weightlifting reasons. Not sure how my body will take living off peanut butter tacos. But, I'm not picky so, I'm intrigued!
