Hey, thanks for posting this. I'm tracking necropsy reports for various calibers and bullet and wonder if you know approximate muzzle or impact velocity from your gun and also if there was an exit or not?
Thanks!
Forgot to post pics, not that looks matter :)
It is not nearly as sexy as the Anti-x, Proof Carbon, Altitude stock, NF scope .308 I built for a friend a few months ago. But also several thousand dollars cheaper.
With scope but no suppressor it weighs 8.1 pounds.
Bought 4 cases of hornady...
Hello, I thought I'd give a quick update about the status of the new rifle which prompted me to start this thread and for which I have gotten such great advice through all of the replies.
Given the goals for this gun and the feedback I got from everyone I tentatively decided to re-build my old...
IMHO- A person can accept money from the sale of a product that he helped design, prototype, test and bring to market while still retaining integrity and honesty within his field of interest.
When did we arrive at this place where the majority of folks believe that if someone in the industry...
Thank for sharing this necropsy report. I'm having a hard time seeing what is going on with the wound. Other than the fact that the bullet destroyed a lot of the heart and lungs?! Was there an exit wound and if so about how big dia? I'm entering all of this data in a running spreadsheet so...
Thanks much. He was thrilled and proud. Shooting drills over the last year made such a difference as he set up and took the shot with real calm confidence! Pretty cool moment for me as a dad.
Another copper bullet terminal performance report.
This one from last night. My sons first deer! Whitetail doe at 75 yards with .243 win. DRT compressed non lead bullet.
Great shot entered just behind front leg and exited opposite side. 1.25 - 1.5” exit wound. Heart shot. She jumped and went...
As for data that is already out there about bullet performance, here are few sources I've found.
Hornady's law enforcement site has lots of test data for different bullets. Here is .308 CX test data following FBI protocal...
I believe that the search for data to help to pick any bullet (lead or non-lead) is a valuable thing and that it should have some base-line metrics and standards to help make the data more defensible and to create consistent, reliable and accurate results.
There appear to be two ways to test...
Thanks for photos.
That is what I think I look like in my head. But have never taken a picture or video of my form.
Your post makes me realize I should take a video of my shooting form to see how my head alignment looks. I feel like my hand is doing a good job per your description but can...
Thanks All for the comments,
Seeing nobody says that this is good advice for hunting conditions and shooting I will keep on with current technique but pay attention to not "pushing" the stock or steering with my face bones!
Appreciate the input.
Hi All,
I'm a mountain hunter and I am focused on improving my skills as a field shooter on game. I am not interested in optimizing competition or bench shooting. My guns are all between 8 and 10.5 pounds fully built-out and loaded. My personal shooting distance limit for big game is 500...
Hey SDHNTR,
I don't think this thread has been a debate at all. Except maybe for your recent post and the previous one from 35Whelen.
I think most of this thread has been a series of sharing information and data and asking questions.
Unless I missed something, you two really are the only...
35,
I appreciate your sharing your photos and experiences with this thread. I also appreciate that you have settled on a bullet and type of bullet that you are happy with and have no interest in changing from.
Some of us enjoy trying to optimize our systems including hunting bullets and enjoy...
I totally agree. But the hard part is figuring out what type of wound channel and penetration at what velocities each of these bullet options actually offers. I so wish there was an independent testing lab that would test bullets and publish the results for average wound cavity size and length...
Damn, that is such a true and accurate summary IMHO.
As one of those who is not a beginner and not an expert, I feel somewhat bad for asking questions. It's obvious to me that someone needs to say, "shut up kid, just do as a I say." And they are probably correct.
BUT, even on this site I see...
