I’m glad y’all were able to score some deals. I really didn’t have it in the budget this month and knew I’d be kicking myself when I did make a purchase
I just ran across a good deal on the Stone Glacier Grumman jacket at Midway USA. It's advertised as open box @ $209. It appears they have 2XL and XL in stock. I picked up the medium. Good luck.
I’m afraid I can’t provide real feedback on this one. I did purchase a few boxes of their bullets to load for a Marlin 38-40 and a few more for loading in a 33 WCF. Both projects were eclipsed by others…. I’m sure I’ll get back to them….
I increasingly find myself using a soft case. They’re just handier and easier to put in the back seat of the truck. That said, I’ve been very tempted by the Apache gun case from Harbor Freight. I believe it has the pick and pull foam which makes it very easy to customize for your rifle. No...
Verify that you are using the correct shell holder. I picked one up the other day thinking I was using the correct one for my hand primer. It wasn’t which was the reason I was having trouble priming. The wrong shell holder would cause the case to be out of alignment far enough that you’d have...
Fellow Roksliders: I'm sad to share that I learned that Melvin Forbes passed away. I was honored to call him a friend. Please keep his family in your prayers.
It would definitely be at the top end assuming I can get the bullet to shoot. Quickload shows it as being 1k PSI over pressure at 2750 - its tough to say what the real world results will be given it would be on the edge. At that velocity, it carries 2k FPS and 2k energy to 500 yards. Even...
I might give the 185’s a try after the 210’s. I did a good job of hoarding R26 a while back and have plenty. Quickload leads me to believe I can get to ~ 2750 FPS and that bullet really should retain the velocity and energy well.
I agree with the suggestions thus far. While more difficult, the reduced loads are a great option. I often load Trail Boss loads for my centerfire rifles so I can practice with loads that recoil slightly more than a .22.
I agree w/Fireflyfishing. Shooting a lighter bullet can also make a noticeable difference and stock design goes a long way. I also perceive recoil to be less from rifles with longer barrels. Why? I don’t know. Maybe the muzzle blast impacts what my brain perceives. My experience is with...
Loaded 80 rounds of 30/06. 8 different loads across three different bullets. 10 rounds per load to be fired as one group per load. We'll see if any show good consistency for further development.
I was itching for a backcountry experience on the East Coast a few years ago and ended up at the base of Santanoni Peak in the ADK. It was far enough in to get away from everyone and everything but not so far that I wouldn't have pulled the trigger. The bottoms were so thick that you couldn't...
