For the folks who reload for a 25-06, I'm curious what "recipes" you've had good success with. I have some decent loads worked up with H4831SC and 90 gr Sierra HPBT and 100 gr Nosler BT's. Accuracy is good (~1 MOA), velocity is OK (3200 and 3065 fps, respectively). Seems like I should be able to...
I would, had I not broken mine. Wouldn't say the construction is the most robust, though I tend to be a bit of a brute. In my experience I would say that I should have oversized the holes drilled for the posts to reduce binding as you adjust the height. Hopefully at least my 2 cents is helpful...
@tstith As follow-up, I was able to verify in the Hornady Rifle Bullet Guide on their reloading app that the muzzle velocity range for both the 200 and 212 gr ELD-X's is 2000-3100 fps. Therefore, I will continue to use my load that measured 2940 fps. That said, I am still curious about the...
@tstith where were you able to find that ELD-X's need to be <=2850 fps leaving the muzzle? To clarify, does that apply to 212 gr bullets and 200 gr? I bought some N565 and had consistently good results, best groups at 74.3 gr. I measured velocity at 2940 fps.
Correct. When I was on the phone with Browning, they strongly suggested having a professional do the bedding. I nodded, said sure, and had a buddy who has bedded a few rifles do this for me. I've since taken this rifle to the range--with the new stock and mcarbo trigger spring upgrade, shooting...
Browning's "Max" stock (vertical grip, cheek riser, etc.) can be purchased directly from their parts department for $210 (~$232 after tax and shipping). You can get black, FDE, OD green, or OVIX camo. It will need to be bedded. Found this out when I called them out of curiosity. Bought the FDE...
PSA, I would not suggest installing this on an x-bolt unless judicious care is taken--I can confirm that none of the templates provided match up to where the thumbscrews ought to land on an x-bolt. The holes on the side of the stock need to translate downwards ~.5".
Thank you all for the suggestions--looks like I'll have some things to try.
H1000 may pose some difficulty to find. I've suspected that that particular powder may be the solution and haven't seen it around much. Regardless, I'll keep an eye out for it, along with the others.
On the subject...
Hello all,
I've spent some time trying to develop a load for my Browning X-Bolt Max Long Range in 300 WM and have yet to achieve satisfactory results (sub-MOA). I found that 200gr Hornady Precision Hunter ammo yielded the best results from factory ammo, so in essence, that is what I am...
