Airline (international) travel - tips / tricks?

I have flown numerous time for hunting trips with weapons. Here are a few things that I’ve streamlined: 1. If you can swing it, make sure your bow case is hard sided (Pelican case or something similar). If you’re not doing a foam cut out type case, then pack your clothes around the bow to keep...

How much of your unit do you scout or hunt?

I spent a ridiculous amount of time e-scouting the entire unit(s) I was hunting in SW Colorado. I had hunted the area two years ago so I was somewhat familiar with the landsacape. Arrived two days before 3rd rifle opened and heard multiple bulls bugling so I was able to locate where they were...

    CO 3rd Rifle Thread

I have never seen so many elk in CO on public land. Guess I got very lucky by being in the correct spot. I watched about 70-80 cows and saw 4 legal bulls before opening day. They were bugling like crazy as well. Despite the cold, I felt like it was a September rut hunt.

    CO 3rd Rifle Thread

I tagged out in SW Colorado for elk but wanted to update everyone on what I saw regarding mulies. I saw between 60-70 does between 6,500 - 8,000 feet. None of the doe groups had any bucks with them except for a single spike. If you’re hunting in the SW, my guess is the bucks are still up high.

Colorado Third Rifle Update - Bulls Still Bugling

I got it done on opening day in SW Colorado mostly due to luck and playing the hunting pressure. The bulls were still bugling and the cows were mewing, making them easy to locate. Prior to sunrise on opening morning, the woods were so loud I couldn’t believe it. I am not an experienced elk...

    OH / IL public land

The percentage of public lands in Ohio is approximately 5%. While Wayne NF offers a lot of land to hunt, the state overall has little public land accessibility.

What's a good public land whitetail state in the midwest?

Ohio is a good state to hunt in. Only 5% public land, but if you research enough, you will find places to hunt. Wayne National Forest in southern Ohio has a lot of public land available. Ohio has a very long bow season (end of September through beginning of February). With that said, Ohio has...

    Goat Knives ghosting me?

I had this same thing happen to me last year. I emailed them multiple times but received no response at all. My credit card was charged for the purchase but I never received a confirmation email or product. I had to dispute the charge with my cc company to get the charge reimbursed. I ended up...

Strange sounds in Crazy Mountains, Montana

Possibly barred or screech owls? I was camping in West Virginia one summer and was awoken in the middle of the night by the strangest noises. It was a mix of ape like noises mixed with someone being murdered (best way I can describe it). I had no idea what it was, but needless to say, I didn’t...

Mayhem Hunt (Rich Froning)- Train for the Pursuit

I’ve been doing this program for a few weeks now. In past years I have trained for hunts by doing rucking, running and lifting workouts, similar to programs outlined in Training for the New Alpinism. I thought I was in good shape but some of the Mayhem workouts are very tough and I love it. An...

    Carnivore Diet

I’ve been on a animal based diet (carnivore but I also eat fruit) for about a year. While this is not medical advice, I have noticed nothing but positive benefits. If you are really interested in giving it a go, then you need to commit fully for at least 60 days. I personally found this diet...

    Phoneskope Carbon

While I can’t say for sure, I would guess that it should work with any phone case that has a magnet on the back of it. You would still need the Phoneskope eye attachment for the spotter.

Guys that drive a long ways to hunt, what are your less common(but important) pieces of gear/tools you're sure to keep in the truck?

If your truck has the capability, pay for internet access for the month of your hunt. It might seem silly, but if you get stuck in a place with zero reception and get lost or need assistance, accessing your truck’s wifi can be a life saver.

    Phoneskope Carbon

I was able to test mine last night in the backyard. I have not tested it in an actual hunting environment yet, but will update this post after I’ve run it through a season. My previous phone scope was the Magview. I have not used Ollin but my hunting partner does and loves it, so take this...

    Phoneskope Carbon

I just got mine today. I’ll run it through some tests and report back on whether or not it was worth the money.

    E-Scouting Tips

I second this feedback. Treeline Academy made me a much, much better elk hunter. It also translates to deer, etc.

    Wyoming Elk Preparation

I’d recommend two things: 1. Mark Livesay’s e-scouting course called Treeline Academy. 2. Buy and read, “Training for the New Alpinism”.

    Wyoming advice/suggestions

I’d recommend taking Mark Livesay’s Treeline Academy elk e-scouting course. It is worth every cent and will give you the tools narrow down where to focus in a unit.

    October mule deer

Shoot me an email and we can talk about specifics. [email protected]. 78, 77, 771. I hunted elk here two years ago and saw a decent amount of deer so I have good starting points on where to go.
