Look up hunting fool they have some landowner tags in New Mexico, archery, muzzleloader and rifle. You can DIY or hire an outfitter to help you, I am sure Garth /hunting fool has some recommendations for an outfitter that would guide you if you have the tag. -

How many inches to justify a shoulder mount for you?
Just euro for me, I use that extra money to do more hunting, euros are easier to move around and adjust. I did a shoulder mount my first nice bull 320" ( had killed several rag horn-good meat bulls) and was talked into it by taxidermy, should have listened to my gut because I was pretty new to... -

Old man workout
If your hunting with your DAD it will be much more important for you to be in tip top shape! Have him doing fair amount of walking and maybe add small weighted backpack to the walks as he progresses. Get some good walking sticks as well. Also headlamps for the dark times, around camp etc... Good... -

9 year old first deer hunt with a rifle, any suggestions!
If you can get a Tikka 223 lite compact and it will fit him perfect. Started my boys on this from a 22 and they learned the fundamentals. Those 55grain vmax bullets kill deer pretty good out of 223.- Hntelk
