Shed Hunting: Where’s the beef and what’s the best way to manage it?

It's hilarious you got called a Californian for this opinion. Where I live in MT I can think of 3 locations within half an hour from where I live with exactly these total area closures specifically for winter elk habitat. It's been that way for a long time; there's plenty of other areas you can...

    Howa 1500 Superlite questions

Has there been any progress on this? Thinking about picking one of these up but since the stocks seem like a not uncommon issue would like to know i could get it fixed if I’m unlucky.

4-Day Backpack Gear List - any advice on cutting weight?

Make sure you’re comparing it to hornet elite, that’s the ul version. Like a lot of companies they’re pretty bad at naming their products for clarity. I remember looking at a couple BA tents at the time but for the weight having 2 doors was the clincher. One gear vestibule, one piss door. So far...

4-Day Backpack Gear List - any advice on cutting weight?

Agree with everyone else's suggestions - good starting place but there's still plenty to trim. Practicing how to range by size calculation of your target means you could replace a piece of gear with a piece of knowledge, which is the most UL practice of all. Definitely halve the power bank if...

I divide the harvest by the "hunters" number, which FWP defines as an "Estimate of how many people of this residency hunted in this area." So at least in Montana, it is limited by the fidelity of that information as an input.

Quality of the data was one of my concerns, thank you for illuminating exactly how it's collected. Do you know about other state's collection procedures?

    Feedback on district mapping project

Hi everyone, I've been teaching myself GIS for work reasons, and besides online coursework I started a project on my own using MT's publicly available harvest estimate numbers run through some ArcGIS processes to produce maps of HDs paired with an estimated success rate for a given species and...

UL 20deg + ~2lb sleeping bags with a $150 budget - is it even possible?

Another good place to look for used stuff is reddit r/ulgeartrade and r/geartrade. Not all the time and getting truly amazing deals requires regular checking otherwise someone else will pounce. But if you have more time than money it's a good way to start building out an ultralight system. I was...

Hey everyone, long time lurker and appreciator-from-afar of rokslide. Residing in MT since 2010, originally from Oregon. Created an account mainly for some feedback on a hunting related GIS project I've been working on, will comment with a link to that post once it's up. Thanks for having me!
