How'd you do for archery? I was raised hunting unit 19, 191 (35 years now) and hunt it every fall even as a non-resident. I'll be down there again for the 4th season looking to throw some meat in the freezer.
Kodiak Kiliuda Bay. Ran into 3 billies all together. We shot a 9.25" and a 10". One even larger gave us the slip when things got busy. That was the 14th goat I've harvested in Alaska.
Depends where unit go in 191. I grew up hunting that unit and go back as a non-resident every fall. Like was mentioned above, some areas are loaded with hunters but others areas you can hunt all day and not see any other orange. This is a CWD unit and the CDOW tried their best to annihilate...
I shot one, processed it, hauled it back to Alaska and then got a phone call from Colorado that the deer had tested positive for CWD. I wont eat any venison from a CWD area until I get the results back. Colorado refunded my non-resident license fee and gave me $50 for processing the animal...
I used TAG bomb bags on a mtn goat hunt this year and they worked great. They fit well inside of the SG load cell bag. I also have the Magnum game bags from Cabelas.
I grew up hunting this area and still travel back and hunt it. Unit 9 is primarily private land. Unit 19 has a fair amount of private land down low and the remainder can be tough to hunt with all the trees. Pingree Park is fairly popular in unit 19. I personally hunt 191 in the Poudre...
Great pattern. That looks exactly like where we hunt for early season Alaska caribou. Early in the season they are up high to get away rom the bugs and heat. It's rocky and short vegetation. I'd love to try this pattern out this August up by Denali.
Well for the first time in my life since I've been able to legally hunt deer in Colorado (34 years), I won't be hitting the hills. Yes, I didn't draw a tag. And my father who has over 50 years hunting the same hills won't be hunting. Yes, he failed to draw a tag. I remember growing up when we...
Over the last 5 years I've drawn permits for and harvested goats in the North and South Road system and Crown Mountain. Last year was my 10th successful goat hunt. It never gets old chasing these majestic animals. I didn't draw a permit this year and I'm planning on doing a fly in hunt in...
What unit were you guys hunting in? I'm holding 6 points now and need to start looking for an area. My plan was an Eastern Plains hunt but those high peaks sure are majestic.
Dang Billy- sorry to hear your hunt turned into a survival situation. Glad everything turned out ok for you. Nice pictures though. Did you at least manage to tag a couple deer?
Adam
I shot my 10th goat this year. Had the south road system tag and got one above the headwaters of the Sacramento River. Saw lots of goats hanging out on both sides of the river. In the last four years I've also had the north road system and the Crown Mountain tags. Love hunting Kodiak goats
