    Muzzy Hunt - Bullet Recommendations

Interested to see the responses - I'm in the same situation for moose. People seem to like Thor and No Excuses, but everything I've been able to find is pretty anecdotal. I killed one with a Powerbelt in the neck, but I'm not really that happy with how they shoot. There's a lot of very...

    Realistic MOA Expectations vs Marketing

I've never owned a custom gun like that, so I'm not going to argue, except to say that you'd pick the best Tikka and then start upgrading around the barreled action. What percentage of rifle hunters would you say are good enough to realize meaningful performance improvements from that kind of...

    Starting point for 6.5CM

How much is your time worth? I look at it like tying flies - it's probably not going to be meaningfully less expensive. If you want something you can't get off the shelf, go for it. If you enjoy (or think you'd enjoy) the process, go for it. Strictly as a cost saving measure, I dunno. It'll...

    Realistic MOA Expectations vs Marketing

How many Tikkas can you buy and try for that cost? Pretty damn good chance at least one of them is going to outshoot the custom gun :)

    Swarovski EL Range - $1999

Oh, yeah, I misunderstood. No onboard ballistic calculator of any kind. It will give you range and angle compensated range.

    How important are rain pants

I live in SEAK, and still hate rain pants. YMMV! Helly Hansen-style fishing bibs will keep you dry, but aren't much fun to walk around in. Expensive goretex bibs will keep you reasonably dry, but are still a big weight penalty to pack. The ultralight, "packable" rain pants don't keep me dry...

    First LR hunting rifle

A 6.5PRC with factory ammo gets you 140/147gr ELDMs at 1800FPS over 800 yards... Still too expensive to shoot enough to be effective at that range (at least for me). Pair it with an identical fast twist .223 and you're really in business.

    How important are rain pants

Rain pants suck, in my opinion. If you really want to stay dry, waders will do it. If I need rain pants I bring goretex ski bibs. I get no value from anything lighter.

    Swarovski EL Range - $1999

The FieldPro package is mostly cosmetic and not very consequential - slightly different armor, different neck strap, different strap attachments. This is the last gen, so what it doesn't have is: The "TA" tracking assistant (Which no one seems to care much about. I don't want Bluetooth...

    Wiser Precision Quick Stix

I really like them. Handy to clip poles together even when not carrying a gun. Haven't had a problem with them catching on anything (and I've put some bushwhack miles on them). They aren't always part of my shooting solution (shooting off a steep sidehill at a grouse in a tree, for example -...

    Bullet choice for... Squirrels.

It's really hard to go back from this. Just so much fun. I like Lapua Center X out of my T1x, but any standard velocity round works great. If I'm hunting with the .22 I'm taking head shots anyway.

    First LR hunting rifle

Stainless Tikka is pretty dang tough to beat, both from a value and functionality standpoint. Maven RS1.2, maybe a RokStock. Like others, I'd get something with less recoil than 300WM, probably a lot less. More info on your specific use case would help.

    Where to buy rifles online...

I've bought a number of things from them over the years. Generally the best available price. Never had an issue.

Still out there! There's one less than there was, though.

    RokStok

I heard some chatter about a short LoP Rockstock possibly coming down the line. Is that still a thing? I want one (or maybe two)

CVA Accura LRX or Paramount Pro

I mean, there's no rule against having two for a followup shot, right? Just need to trick a buddy into carrying it for you.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Good information. Nice to have a nonlead alternative that seems to perform pretty well.

Wait, there's a short LOP now? When can I get one?

Tikka "Rokslide Special", let's see 'em

That sounds really fun. I had to take my blued Compact in to get Cerakoted, so I'm back on hold.
