I think many people get caught in trying to simplify everything too much.
"faster is better" is nearly always true.....ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL. But all is rarely equal.
....but you keep all the knowledge and experience you have gained:
What would your beginner reloading setup be?
Ill be reloading 6.5creed and some 308 to start, maybe 223/556 and 270 later.
I plan to do some LR comp with the 6.5, not serious so not thousands of rounds a year, so a single...
Well thats a weird thing to make non-negotiable. But hey, its your money, spend it how you want. If you want to die on that hill then you enjoy it. Meanwhile all the Tikkas in the world are operating near flawlessly with that "sloppy", greased butter slick bolt.
I know this isnt really your question but,
IME Winchester hunting ammo is trash. 3 different rifles(2 of them tikkas & a savage 110), 3 different chamberings, not one of them shot the winchester stuff worth a damn.
Ive got a Patriot 6.5 that was given to me by my FIL. It will be my son's first rifle to learn on and do some eastern deer hunting. FIL put a super crappy scope on it so I want to put something better but im not going to spend a bunch on it, as the title says under $400. ill probably stick...
I would think more important is good mechanical and chemical adhesion first. And as others have said, matte clear for a good top coat without a slick or reflective finish.
I know this doesnt really matter. Its a short-med range bullet. But I just happened to see that the Fusion .308 150gr component bullets are listed at .387 BC and they list the Fusion 308 150gr ammo at .414.............so which is it? Surely they dont have 2 different 150gr 308 Fusion bullets.
So im going to throw my opinion in the ring.
#1 I think we have to set expectations about what is reasonable to expect out of a rifle. I have a T3x superlite in 308 stock @6.2lbs and a Savage 110 Tactical in 6.5CM stock @9lbs. I dont expect them to do the same things. I dont expect the savage...
Yeah I know all about rabbit holes.
Personally the only other thing I could get into would be 2 or 3-gun but I think rimfire versions of that would suit me just fine.
Im not that busy, so time isnt an issue. Most of my evenings are spent watching tv or playing video games. Id be far better off actually using my brain.
I dont look at is as strictly cost saving, it could be at some point but it would take a while.
I look at it as achieving better loads...
A few points for my case.
I am only interested in reloading 6.5cm, maybe 308 later. Nothing else.
Im looking at reloading as a way to control/tune what I shoot for less cost than ordering custom.
My calculations put break even at about 1540rds, assuming $1000 for all equipment (just...
Looking to get a starting recipe, novice match grade, probably 140gr, out of a 24" Savage 110, longest shot to 1000yds. Just wanting to calculate a ballpark $/shot.
I have no reloading gear yet, ill be asking about that next if the $/shot is favorable.
Thanks
