I forgot that I had a pair of Patagonia level 5 flex pants until I dug them out today. They are also on the heavy side as well (25 oz) but they are nylon vs whatever my other ones are, they’re stretchy and seem to shed water fairly well. I may just run those and save myself the money.

Thanks! A lot of the points are duplicates but I think that’s a good sign, everyone has pretty much come to a consensus about potential issues they’ve seen with my setup. I am definitely implementing the majority of what I’ve read here. Namely: ditching nalgene and bladder in lieu of smartwater...

I’m going to really dig into YouTube, the advice in these posts, etc to dial in my food situation. I have had the same experience as you with freeze dried meals, I tend to not need to go very often when those are my main diet.

You bring up a good point, surface-s****ers are dirty, evil creatures. I’ll bring my little camp trowel

My friend has packed out three from this area. I will have to ask him, I don’t know off the top of my head.

I like the easy breakfast idea and also going for more ready to eat options for lunch. Food was the part of this list I spent the least time on, I’ve been learning a lot from y’all’s recommendations

Planning on dropping a Peak meal per day. I like the idea of breaking the trip up and resupplying at the truck, that could alleviate a lot of issues. Cross loading equipment between the two of us is a good call as well, I’ll have to come up with a plan for that with him. The combat bottoms are...

Yeah that’s the one, I have removed that from the packing list. I grabbed my puffer, threw it in a Sea to Summit E-vent bag (large waterproof bag) that I was already planning on bringing and it was actually a little better than that pillow. Saved 10ish oz there! The 550 cord I’m planning on...

Yeah I think I need to eliminate one of the freeze dried meals per day in lieu of something ready-to-eat. Thankfully my stomach handles Mountain House and Peak meals pretty well.

I have honestly never packed an elk out (this is my second year elk hunting). I have done some significant rucks through various terrain including some gnarly mountains though. I do a lot of rucking in my job (military) and often carry loads heavier than what I’ve proposed here. That being said...

“Shitting like a crippled goose.” 😂 I am familiar with the effects of MREs unfortunately. Man, 37lbs sounds so unattainable but I’ll keep working my way down. Thanks!

Man, I thought I did such a good job limiting weight when I first posted 😂 I appreciate it!

I am definitely planning on carrying less water than I originally thought. That has been a consistent theme in these replies. We will have a cooler staged at the truck full of goodies. Thanks!

Admittedly, I am new to elk hunting and my buddy has killed a bull in this area on the majority of his hunts so I figure it’s a good place to start. It is 100% not falling on deaf ears that if we are successful, it will be a hellacious pack out. But my friend has done it a few times, we’re both...

I hadn’t even considered losing the bladder and just carrying multiple smart water bottles instead, that’s really smart. I’m also a big fan of multi-use items, I think I’m going to use your poncho idea! Adjusting my cordage has been a theme within the replies, I’m definitely going to address...

Ditching the nalgene definitely makes sense, thanks for that. The pillow is just one that I’ve had and used for a long time but I’d like to try out the fillow for sure. One of my worst qualities when it comes to the outdoors is that I am a bougie sleeper. Some of my friends can lay a tarp down...
