    Outfitters banning bergers?!

    Not true. An outfitter I have used in Wyoming for elk bans Nosler ballistic tips (it is on their website). The weird thing is the guides use Bergers in their rifles. It didn't matter to me because my wife and I use accubonds for elk.

    What to buy

    7mm-08 is great hunting cartridge. My wife uses it (in a suppressed Kimber Montana) for both whitetail deer and elk. She took a cow elk last trip at 420 yards. One shot and the Elk just dropped. A Tikka T3x in 7mm-08 would be an excellent choice.

    A 7mm Remington Magnum is really overkill for the type of hunting you do. In fact, due to recoil and ammunition costs, it makes it harder for a new shooter to get better.

    Your first deer rifle?

    My father bought me a Win 94 in 30-30 for my 11th birthday. The first deer rifle I bought.for myself was a1980s Winchester m70 F.W. in 30-06. I still have the M70 but have moved on to smaller cartridges (.257 Roberts, 6.5 Creed.) for deer.
