Rent with confidence! I had a great experience with Sam and with Alaska 4x4 rentals. Truck was great, and ready to go when we arrived at nearly Midnight. Desk attendant was friendly and paperwork was quick. Return process was just as smooth and no unexpected surprises. Thanks again!
yes, locals said they were pouring concrete on the Yukon river bridge that day and it would be closed all day. I was shocked that it wasn't better advertised on the road.
Sounds good, they’re yours. Have a few other miscellaneous things you can sift through to see if you need or want them also. Cutting board, foil, ziplocks, trash bags, etc. I think you’ve got my number still from the rental, if not shoot me a message and I’ll send it to you.
I’m in FBX now, will be flying out tomorrow night. I have 3 gas cans and a good bit of isobutane (5-6 100g containers) that anyone is welcome to pickup for free. Just shoot me a message
The outside of any game bird breast has a covering like that. How moist or dry the meat is has nothing to do with the meat itself and all to do with how long it’s cooked. There’s zero fat, so if you overcook it even a little it’ll be dry, otherwise is moist and delicious.
Update, after shooting a few we found that the rubber blunt tips only work if you hit them from the base of the wing up. Any body shot and they’ll just run/fly away no matter how badly they’re hurt. The judo points are likely more effective. Lesson learned. The good news is once we figured that...
We’ve seen a good number on the tundra, they’re tough to kill though! Hit one with a blunt tip two days ago, knocked him over got a plume of feathers then he got up and flew stay like nothing happened! I’m thinking that one must be a fluke.
I looked at AK trophy express but it’s definitely pricey. $575 for caribou if you do early registration, $650 otherwise and that doesn’t include storage charges in Fairbanks until it’s picked up. If I shoot a monster and want to save the rack I’d probably use them, but otherwise I’ll just take...
While it’s true that you can ship your first two bag/boxes for $80 (or 45 with the AA credit card) the reality is that anyone traveling to Alaska for a hunting trip already has at least two checked bags of gear/guns/bows. That means the extra bags (meat) are going to be billed at the 150 per...
with their new baggage policies, it seems it would make the best financial sense to pack meat boxes as close to 100 lbs as possible, unless I'm missing something
new price for excess checked bag is $150 each, price for overweight (up to 100#) is an additional $100. so it would cost $300 to send...
I've got my offline maps downloaded and my inreach ready to go, but I've been curious if anyone has any firsthand experience with the cell service on the haul road this year, particularly the north slope portion. I read where there are a couple companies working with DNR and BLM and have been...
Reports from my transporter are that there are a good number of caribou along the road and up the rivers from PS2. They killed 3 or 4 the other day on one outing. I don't know anything about how long they'll be in the area based on that, but they're optimistic about us having a good hunt when...
fly in early AM 8/21, drive up same day. back in fbx 8/31 and deaded out 9/1. You might want to check the "haul road gear exchange" thread to see if there's someone whose dates might line up with yours.
Wer'e going to buy one at walmart/ sportsmans warehouse once we land and then dump it/ give it away when were done. I like the idea of being able to practice every day and shoot before each days hunt. For a trip this expensive I'm not going to let a $60 target be the difference in being...
Thanks for this report! Ive got one of your trucks rented for later in August and went with the 2500 vs 1500 because I knew it would have the 10 ply load range E tires by default, now I'm kind of wish I got a 1500 knowing that they all have load range E 10 ply, haha!
I'm curious, how many...
There are definitely many parts of the state with very few moose, but in E1 and E2 where the tags are valid it's often easier to find a moose than a deer. We've got a camp in E2 so I've literally spent my whole life hunting on those woods and there are lots of moose there. If you hire a decent...
