I finally settled on the Nikon 16x56 and to my surprise it's an amazing binocular that is very sharp and crisp edge to edge. This got me thinking into trying out the Athon Cronus 15x56 as well to compare which I did today and the Cronus doesn't even come close to the Nikon. Edge blurriness is...
I ended up getting the Nikon Monarch 5 16x56 new for $509 usd taxes in at my door and couldn't be happier. I'm sure the others are better in some way, but these are so good that if I never look through a swaro I can't imagine ever wanting one.
I've looked through the Nikons right until before...
Great idea but I live in Canada and not so easy! I contacted Maven if they would consider opening a demo program in Canada but they said they don't have any plans to do so. If I use their demo program and decide to send them back, I'm out about $500 cad in shipping fees and taxes. You guys...
Below is the SONA reply:
"If buying from a third party in the US, make sure the product is unregistered by the owner before making the purchase. Once the product is registered under your account the warranty will follow the product."
I think in some circumstances that could be difficult to do...
OK, I just emailed them to see. Asked them if I buy a used SLC 15x56 from a US seller shipped to me in Canada if it would be covered under warranty if it is faulty as I would have no original papers.
Fine print says
"The warranty is only valid if a warranty/service document correctly
dated, signed, and stamped by the authorized dealer or an invoice for
the purchase of the instrument can be presented. Instruments without this
warranty/service document or proof of purchase will be repaired at...
Thanks Bullblaster, I should get the message by now as enough people have said the slcs are the best. I was reading the warranty is non transferable with the swaros but I really don't want to buy a new one so a little tricky for me as I don't want to pay so many $$$ for a binocular yet.
Looks like either Maven or SLC! I'm leaning towards Maven because I need a few extra $$ in my pocket and I like that the colors pop a little more with them.
Thanks Pdzoller. Compared to the Nikon Monarch 5 16x56, would you say the image contrast and brightness is a significant step up with the Maven and Leupold or is it just a little better in your opinion?
I know exactly what you're saying as the higher the magnification the higher the letdown if the optics are not perfect! I have a Monarch 5 16x56 and I really love it for it's form factor and decent optics but that being said the images are a little dull and washed out and I know I can do better...
Here is the list of 15x and 16x I'm interested in and can anyone tell me from best to worst which one has the better brightness and contrast?
Hoping some of you have had a few of these to really compare! Right now not interested in Meopta, Zeiss or Swarovski

Athlon Cronus 15x56...
Just ordered from Doug the Athlon Cronus G2 10x42. Chose free shipping to Canada, so I wonder how long that will take? Anyway, I know the Cronus is not great in low light, but the optics are so good that I couldn't resist, especially at camaralandny's price today.
Did you notice any rolling ball effect with the Kowa? I'm about to buy one after reading your post. Every time I add a maven to the cart I back away for some reason.
Exactly true everything you say. Myself for example can't gel with any Vortex binos because the colors look very muted and dull to me and somewhat gray. A few days ago I compared my Midas G2 8x42 to the Razor UHD and noticed the razor colors are muted and not true to life compared to the Midas.
